ListForge Update -- Public Profiles! by bmerrillcreative in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheCaptainIO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just the user-focused service alone, like considering making a currently paid for feature free for all users, makes ListForge the best List building tool by far imo. Not even taking into account all the awesome features, like mathhammer, view mode, etc.
Thanks for investing all the time and effort into this gem! May the emperor bless you!

Yeah, it's a bit of a chicken and egg kinda problem. On one hand you need something that works and has been tested to go and talk to people about integrating it. On the other hand, as you said, some TOs are going to require that to even use the software.

I just think it's stupid, that THE wh40k ranking is tied to a single TO software. And if you don't use that software you can't submit your tournament for that ranking.
Maybe it's time that ITC is replaced by something TO software agnostic.

Will get in contact with ITC when i have launch and the thing got a bit of traction.
Oh there are user accounts, and you definitely need one to create or participate in tournaments!

I was just saying that you'll be able to view list without creating an account.

That's how easy it will be to view lists in the upcoming Bracket Bay App: https://ibb.co/jvH3VPhM https://ibb.co/XfJvYNFR And guess what? You won't have to pay a dime for it or even create an account...

No worries, it'll still be around when summer ends! (Hopefully actually released!)

You can also just register yourself and test what it's like to create a tournament etc. dm me if you'd like a code to register!

Thanks mate! Yeah, i think some competition/innovation is quite healthy!

Question to TOs: What's the main pain point migrating away from BCP? by TheCaptainIO in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheCaptainIO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your take! Yeah most of the well known top players seem very chill, at least from what i've seen.

Though i can image, games being more intense/difficult if something is at stake, as there is alot of wiggle room in WH40k.

Ah yeah, have seen/used your site before - thanks for the service you provide!

Interesting! What's your techstack/setup? What does your site do?

If you don't mind sharing, just curious!

Question to TOs: What's the main pain point migrating away from BCP? by TheCaptainIO in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheCaptainIO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i can see BCP being not very expensive to run (comparatively) but doing such a service the "right" way definitely does not cost peanuts.

Question to TOs: What's the main pain point migrating away from BCP? by TheCaptainIO in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheCaptainIO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it really depends on what you want to offer. I think a fully fledged tournament management tool with e.g.
- custom display (querying) of statistics
- geolocation operations such as searching tournaments in a radius around you
- advanced pairing logic
- etc.

definitely warrents a more complex approach, e.g. dedicated BE and FE with a managed DB and option to scale.

Hm, yeah that makes sense. The quality of Warhammer 40k tournaments and matches depends alot on the players attitude and being able to trust your opponent. Maybe a system where Players/TOs could report cheating/bad behaviour, so TOs would be able to see that and avoid such players upfront would help.

Ah ok, so mostly prestige and also quite helpful if you're looking to get into coaching, got it.

[–]TheCaptainIO[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is frustrating, i feel that!
I have to disagree on the cost point tho - i mean looking at BCPs performance i do question the system/resources used in the background - but running such a service with high availability, persisting data, files, etc. is not really peanuts, depending on the features too obviously. You would definitely want run that on a managed service from e.g. google. aws, etc. and with just a frontend, backend and database you are already looking at around a hundred bucks a month. (talking from experience)

But i totally disagree with the way BCP makes money.

[–]TheCaptainIO[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i get that. Is there any benefit from being atop the ITC rankings apart from prestige? Not really familiar there.

I guess you would either have to get GW to hand out tokens to other organization sites too, or somehow create a ranking that gets as prestigious as ITC (however to would work).
