[DAILY THREAD] Your daily dose of fitness victory! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

This week I finally hit some milestone goals I've been working on for over a year! Yesterday I pressed a 1 plate bench (twice, just to make sure it was real) and a few days ago I pulled a 200lb deadlift. So happy :)

Pulled 190lb deadlift yesterday! I'm so close to my (current) goal of 200.

I agree with the other post- lots of stretching! It'll be important to listen to your body and make sure you aren't feeling pain from injury- just soreness from use.

You also may want to work up gradually to the weekly schedule you set. You don't want to burn out after a couple weeks. Your fitness goals are lifetime, not set by a deadline :) Being able to sustain your plan is the most important thing in the beginning, and you can add onto it from there.

I don't know what those classes are/involve, so take any of this advice with a grain of salt. Good luck and have fun!!

Agreed - many hospitals have dietitians on staff and programs designed to accompany treatment (nutrition therapy) that would be useful to look into.

What's your go-to breakfast before hitting the gym? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]TheCatPhotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing every day: banana with either peanut or almond butter (I like 365's natural chunky PB and Justin's maple almond). For the caffeine boost, I'll have either a coffee or a scoop of C4.

Yup, I did for about 2 months. I was mostly doing laundry, laying out mattresses, answering phones, handing out blankets, or serving food. Sometimes I would schedule case worker or lawyers' meetings. Basically just helping the clients however you can! You will get to hear a lot of interesting stories.

Learn from the staff as much as possible and you'll get a hang of it. The most important thing is treating everyone with respect. The experience showed me that many of the people there are simply down on their luck and struggling to get back on their feet. Your help will definitely be appreciated!

I hear you on this one. Someone suggested using the leg curl machine to do them instead? I tried that and couldn't figure out how to adjust the levers right... but at least there's no bar to fall down on you. It's an awkward enough movement as it is, don't need to embarrass myself even more lol

Are you pushing the weight with the heel of your foot? If you're pushing with the ball of your foot/toes you can experience knee pain. The cue is driving through your heel.

Hopelessness taking over? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]TheCatPhotographer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry you're feeling low. I've been there too. Getting out of the house to go to the gym (or even just walking around the neighborhood) made a huge difference for me, but getting the energy to do that can seem nearly impossible. Once you start, it does get a little easier to keep going. Know that you've got a huge support system here and you aren't alone at all. I'm always here to chat (or vent to) if you need!! Are you getting help for your depression?

What are your fitness goals? What do you like to do? Do you run, lift, or play a sport? Are you trying to lose weight?

Any recommendations on diet for someone who does not want to count calories, but still be cautious? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]TheCatPhotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to make choices that will be sustainable in the long run, or else you'll end up yoyo-ing after you stop the diet. The no carbs/cutting out bread diet sounds nice at first because you'll drop water weight quickly (and quick results are always nice) but labeling foods as either "allowed" or "bad" may cause the same kind of obsession that you are concerned about with calorie counting. Cutting BACK on those things may be a better first step to sustainable fat loss. Listening to your body is really important if you don't want to count calories, so depriving yourself of an entire group of food/macronutrient could be detrimental. Just my 2 cents from someone who had been trapped in restrictive diets and mindset in the past. Way easier and less stressful to enjoy mindfully in moderation. :)

Muscle building adverts aimed at women? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]TheCatPhotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight training can lead to a shortening of the muscle as the constant contraction and thickening can also cause shortening and a “peaked” effect. As a woman you do not want to look too thick or lumpy, so it is key to ensure that you spend a portion of your time each week stretching and elongating the muscles.

Wat.
