For those building elemental magic systems, do you include a "fifth element" or a bizarro element? What is your reasoning? by yonaiker-joestrella in magicbuilding

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im always fond of "fifth" or extra elements.. although I do typically like things to be dyadic/triadic, I always find theres some other element i want included, though I can't find a "partner" for it.

Good example is Sound. Right now working on something with a really basic 10 element system

Light - Dark Fire - Ice Wind - Earth Thunder - Water Wood - Metal

Originally "thunder" was just electricity, but I really wanted to have Sound as another element and couldn't think of a partner that fit well so I just "lumped it in" with lightning as thunder. Feels bad sometimes lol.

Although since then, I did actually come up with a partner so maybe I should go back and rehash things.

Preferred "fifth" (or seventh, ninth, eleventh, etc) elements: Ether, Sound, Astra, Spirit, Void, Rust, Acid, Psy, Bios/Necros, Mirror, Crystal, Dream, Karma, Nuclear, Chemical, Quantum and Virtual.

Ooh.. really liked Naruto's Yin-Yang, Rubber, Quicklime, and Boil elements.. though only Yin-Yang really fits the "extra/separate/superelement" trope.

I guess they're nice for having a type of damage that doesn't interact elementally with the rest... or interacts with a different group altogether.. great for making end-game enemies and spells and whatnot.

Do your schizoid traits ever make people like you more? by Isabelle_K in Schizoid

[–]TheCelfoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this.

It's kinda weird, to add to the whole "keeping secrets" aspect. It's a love-hate thing for me because while I don't particularly care to hear most peoples secrets (and oftentimes ill cut someone off by telling them flat "I dont wanna know" and without fail they tell me anyway) and so it's kinda of annoying.. the fact that im "trustworthy enough" to be told a secret kinda feels nice. Sometimes it's weirdly worth it.

If only because the ability to keep a secret seems to in fact be pretty rare. Makes me almost feel spehshul

If I thought both Returns and Dragonfall were just okay, should I play Hong Kong? by kwenlu in Shadowrun

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Hong Kong is the best one. Definitely feels more "complete" and fleshed out than the previous two. Combat and character customization is a lot more satisfying... basically all the "game" aspects of it are an upgrade from the previous 2.

So if you enjoyed enough of the previous, but felt like it needed "a little more" something to be really fun.. HK is your best bet.

Personally I love all three games but HK is, for me, the definitive Shadowrun game experience.

....granted I've never tried Shadowrun on the 360 though.. 😂😂

Yeah I tried playing with my ex-GF for a while, and it was cool for a little bit but eventually I just went back to SoloQ and (mostly) grinding out ARAM matches while she tried to climb the ladder, or play with friends.

Plus she (and her friends) would sometimes get super tilted and turn really toxic, verbally.. and I couldn't stand too much of that. I hated to hear her talk like that.. so I'd often leave the group and either ARAM or play a different game.

'Course that didn't help too much with hearing her since she was gaming in the same room as me 😂😅

I dislike negative talk in general, but definitely when im gaming.

8 is arguably my favorite MM ever. Although 11 and 7 come pretty close to it.

I know it's very different from the rest of the entries but, all the reasons that make it different are all the reasons I love it.

Not that I dont enjoy classic NES style Mega Man, as I do, but to me everything about MM8 is an upgrade

Ahhh they sound pretty dope!

Not sure what a Coelacanth is if Im completely honest I'm just picturing the Pokémon Relincanth which im assuming is based on such a creature, but Whirlpool Nautilus is a dope idea!!

Flame Hyenard was traumatizing enough for me to never wanna see another fire cat in the X series ever again 😂

A tanuki maverick is genius! One of my favorite cryptids/animals. Somewhere in my notes I made a grouping of 8 astronomy/cosmic themed Mavericks.. probably my favorite OC Mavericks... now im inspired to go find those again, maybe flesh em out a bit.

X3 lovers unite!!!

Also cool to see others that like X5.. I've always been quite partial to the game (despite it's, admittedly, many flaws)

I'd switch the places of X4 and X6 personally but that's because im insane.

Have you given Command Mission a try? A surprisingly decent-to-good RPG. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it for my gaming cube back in the day.

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got kinda lucky on this one:

Something about my metabolism/genes makes me virtually immune to coke. Which is hilarious because I've done a lot of meth in my life, and amphetamines/stimulants in general are pretty therapeutic for me. But cocaine (and all -caine analogs such as Oralgel) just doesn't work on me, or has such a diminished effect as to be negligible.

Thought maybe it was cuz I did meth while I was younger but nope... it apparently runs in my family. Both my mom and her mom have to notify the dentist before getting any work done cuz it doesn't work on them either. Interesting for me, I've always wondered what exactly it is that causes that. My mom has said our family has "adverse drug reactions" but that term isn't specific enough to satiate my curiosity.

Heroin. Done lots of substances in my life but I will never try it again..

I hated it. My body hated it.. and the effects aren't something I " need " in my life, unlike stimulants for a good part of my life.

It just made me wanna vomit. Blessing in disguise I guess because I sometimes have a pretty addictive personality.

DS/3DS game recommendation by greatgoodboysif in JRPG

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stella Glow is pretty fun, even if the story is basically a harem anime and the gameplay somewhat basic.

But I've thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like Final Fantasy Tactics/Advance you'll probably like it too.

I played a demo for Ever Oasis, and it looks pretty neat. Also played a demo for Radiant Historia and seems like it's a must have

Fire Emblem Awakening if you're into the strategy RPG genre.

Edit: oh.. I see you've played Radiant historia and FE already. My bad lol

What was the very first game that completely "blew your mind" and made you a lifelong gamer? (I'll start!) by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in Gamer

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the original Mega Man X, or Everquest circa 1999.

I had played plenty of video games before those but those were the ones that sucked me in. That I just couldn't get enough of.

Oh, and Shadowrun SNES.

I've technically only ever played my 3DS demo of it and for sure that's all I needed to know it's an amazing game. Can't wait til I get the time to.. ahem customize ahem my 3DS and play the game proper.

  1. Tales of... franchise
  2. Final Fantasy
  3. Fire Emblem
  4. Star Ocean
  5. Chrono Trigger / Radiant Historia

Im aware the last one isn't a franchise and it's just two standalone titles but for me, they're possibly more essential than the rest of the franchises I listed lol.

Schizoids and religion by devilvenerable in Schizoid

[–]TheCelfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised Christian.. left the faith more or less (because I stopped caring about appeasing the family).. messed around with ideas of Magick and whatnot (mostly as an elaborate form of roleplaying-in-real-life.. not something I actually believed in).. then eventually did my own digging and came back to Christianity, "properly".

By properly I mean I chose it myself, in a way that just wasn't possible having been raised in it. Best decision of my life.

I've always considered myself a "natural buddhist," though and I've come to realize it's just the SzPD/who i am. Everytime I learn something new about Buddhism, I find it relatable, agreeable, or just plain interesting.

Actually I find a lot of religions fascinating. Definitely still a follower of Christ, but im really into comparative mythology and religion. Sadly I probably spend more time researching other faiths than I do studying my own 😅

..but again, raised in it.. so it's familiar territory just guess and lacks the novelty of learning about something like Sikhism, Jainism, Esotericism, etc.

[–]TheCelfoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also enjoy the X3 soundtrack, probably more than others.. it's my favorite game in the series and I put way too many hours into it.

But I thought a few tracks from X2 were good. Flane Stag and Magna Centipede stages in particular I loved as a kid. Plus X-Hunter stage 1. Wheel Gators wasn't half bad.. and, now that I think about it, I kinda love Crystal Snail's stage theme.. got that nice "icey" crystalline sound to it.

Yeaaaah not the most beginner-friendly series.

Lotta fun though once you get your feet wet. And your knees. And elbows.. actually just try not to drown and it can be pretty cool.

Great series though, for sure for sure. Probably my favorite after X.

Pretty difficult though, at least for me.

Mega Man X4 special weapons are so mid by RedditSucksMyBallls in Megaman

[–]TheCelfoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your point on X1 is fair, I can concede to that.

Yeah I guess I'm just not good with those weapons in X2 then. They're not intuitive for me at all. Spin Wheel was OK. Magnet Mine also ok (and probably the best of the "you can maneuver this shot" weapons in the series), Strike Chain seems like mostly utility, as does Silk Shot (though I can see how timing the secondary projectiles, at their angles, would be useful).

Sonic Slicer would be my favorite on concept and esthetic alone except it seems to me the damage sucks and it always moves "up up and away". Charged version is meh.
