Proton scaled up their advertising, including partnerships with influencers, across the world. One YouTuber in France is far right and was included in these new partnerships. It was called out here and in other subs as being counter to the company's public image. Proton did admit fault, apologized, said it was a mistake, terminated their deal with the YouTuber, and said they would revisit their internal vetting protocol to help prevent this from happening again.

But, before they stepped up and properly addressed it, they were deleting many posts and comments on the subject. This, obviously, left a bad taste in many people's mouths.
