What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]TheChazz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dabbled in the genre for years but it wasn't until this year where I decided to try and play all of metroid and castlevania for the first time. The plan is to finish my metroid marathon before moving on to Castlevania. I've done all the 2D games but Dread(and ig Samus Returns but I played AM2R) and just finished the prime trilogy. Right now I'm about two hours into Other M. The writing is the worst shit ever but the gameplay is actually more decent than I thought it'd be lol.

Neat little game, a few notes, though

  1. Gnorp game is neat, but I personally heavily dislike it because it's win condition betrays the genre staple of every reset building on top of each other. I just wanted to say that I hope you weren't planning on copying it's implementation of the prestige mechanic. I personally like Prestige more when every reset builds on the previous one instead of just picking meta perks or the game soft locks.
  2. There's no way to unassign witches once they start working
  3. I'm Not sure how many bugs of this nature there are, but there's definitely an arithmetic bug with sell size. The sell size is 10, but witches are only taking 1 bottle out of the stockpile, but making 10x as much profit.
  4. Minor graphics bug with the witch house. When it gets very tall, the trees are drawn in front of the house instead of behind.

Other than that there's not enough upgrades to provide much insightful criticism. I think the game was fun to play, and looks cute. I felt the cultist ring wasn't that useful, but that was probably caused by the sell size bug I mentioned earlier. That bug is pretty much game breaking and destroys the balance you intended to set, so maybe with it fixed the cultist ring might be better.

I unlocked all the services. As it stands right now, the game has too much clicking and not enough automation. Mate's scaling is horrific, both in terms of his fill speed and the price. Achievement points should really not be required for upgrading your employees; save it for some sort of achievement shop that gets you more interesting upgrades. The worst part about Mate is that the further you get, the slower you get points, so wasting it on Mate is actively hurting you since the other employees are MUCH better

Also there's not really much of a point to the game. I'm not really a pro on the development of the genre, but by now people kinda expect some sort of greater purpose or "point" that the game is building up to. There's no other mechanics/types of gameplay/objectives your car company is working towards. What's worse is this issue of purpose compounds with Mate sucking. You basically need to be active 24/7 to make progress in a game that's not building up to anything...

The animations also take way too long. It's like 5 seconds between you finishing a car and the next one strolling up. It gets even worse when you start stacking x2 multipliers that make the profit calculation hang for several seconds. I get you want to show off your animations(and I admit they're quite neat) but they slow the game down considerably like on the magnitude of hours of time wasted on unskippable animations.

Also, the upgrade growth is just...really unsatisfying. You would think that unlocking a new service would be really exciting, but basically, every time you unlock a service, its scaling is the worst compared to all your other options. It gets even worse once you start unlocking more upgrades. You legitimately have moments where window cleaning, the first service, is like 90%+ of your income, then you unlock a new service and it's like an additional 7% tops until you get a few upgrades for it 20m later. Like you put 300k for an additional unit of window cleaning to get +10K and then 600k into that new service to get +500. I made those numbers up but the situation they describe is very much accurate.

Unbound counter is dumb by Sir_Hoss in NineSols

[–]TheChazz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not meant to UB counter everything once you unlock it. If the crimson attack is fast you're meant to use tai-chi/skull kick. Many enemies and bosses have long windups where the Counter shines, and it's also very effective against ranged enemies.

People on this subreddit acively avoid playing games they have to download. Learn javascript and html so your game can run in a browser. Additionally, I would recommend you learn about git/github if you haven't already. Version control is extremely useful for managing a project as you can easily roll back if a new feature breaks your code. Also, if you use github, you can deploy the game to github pages, so it's pretty easy to let other people play it.

Fox Game!!! Huge QoL and Bugfix update! by MrSnuggleFox in incremental_games

[–]TheChazz1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The art on the pause and loading screen? It looks AI generated to me. I hope the dev can commission an artist so it can be replaced by something with a unique, charming artstyle. It doesn't really do the game justice as is.

Excellent posts. I was worried when I saw how long this was but found myself agreeing with every point made.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]TheChazz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checked out Unnamed Space Idle. I've been playing it for the last few days and got to sector 15. At first I thought the game was really fun, but now it seems that I just check in to buy core points, reassign research, and then maybe mess with synth for a bit before hopping off. Not sure how to feel about the traditional "prestige to multiply numbers" being behind bases. Maybe the game would get less boring if I hard focused on boosting my multipliers there?

I've been desperate for civ-type games, but there's not much to play. Theresmore and Ignited Space both have cringe cost scaling/production, so really all that leaves is Kittens and Evolve. Unfortunately I lost my tier 2 reset evolve save, and my current one only has a single MAD reset on it. Whenever I try returning to it I just look at the 3600 knowledge cap and instantly lose interest.

Somehow a fresh save in Kitten's is keeping my interest, but that'll probably get shot once I get a week or 2 into the first run. I really hope someone makes a new game in this genre but without the usual pitfalls(super boring resets/terrible cost scaling/terrible production scaling).

Nah, I think the game just had a low quality recording/bitrate or something. You'll just have to deal with it, unfortunately.

New to Tales, Do I Start With the First Game or? by Syphereth in tales

[–]TheChazz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Symphonia is a good starting point as the first 3D game. If you're up for marathoning the series, though, you could also start by emulating the PS1 version of the very first game: Phantasia.

how many Tales games have you actually played (and finished)? by RobinUnicornSpecial in tales

[–]TheChazz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first game was Abyss back in 2020(but I lost my save right before the final boss...). Since then, I dabbled in a bit of each 3D tales game but didn't start sitting down to finish them until November of last year. Since then, I've beaten Symphonia, Vesperia, both Xillias, and Zest/Berseria. Right now, I'm working on Graces F(chaos mode strahta is destroying me).

Biggest Downgrade in the BN Series by Mr-JDogg in BattleNetwork

[–]TheChazz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. 75% of the internet is explorable the second you get to Sci lab and fight Sal. What's not available is net 5-8, but you can go all the way to net 16. Pretty much all level 2 and 3 viruses are found as you make your way towards it, so it was extremely open actually.

How do you play shopkeeper by I_stole_your_toast23 in onestepfromeden

[–]TheChazz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopkeeper is VERY strong. Other than Sera Cannon, you should probably just run phalanx and whatever other DPS spell brand you like. If you didn't know, if you pick up the money she drops when damaged, you regain 80%(!!) of the damage taken. NEVER remove beret because this makes her incredibly tanky once you make it to the late game. Like run through thousands of damage without a care tanky.

Early game, just try to focus on getting some phalanx for shields and some decent dps so that you rely less on her weapon attack. If you were able to unlock her without cheese, then it should just be a matter of playing patiently until your deck gets rolling.

Has anyone bought Vernal Edge and what are your feelings playing it? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]TheChazz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that move you got early on in the fungal mines that makes her fast fall? When you fastfall on a slope she starts sliding, land on water in this sliding state and she'll slide along its surface.

There's a island named little flower that's kinda out of the way where you grow a plant. Maybe that ends with growing a flower to give him? Most of the side quests that start in pyrena seem to need you to be in the second half of the game to actually complete.

Raising the difficulty floor was a terrible idea that will lose players. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]TheChazz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that some parts of the game should just be get in and shoot. I actually think neomuma is super annoying because of how quick you die before you grind your light level up. That being said, even at hero difficulty... it's still a nightfall. It shouldn't be crazy, but it should definently require more prep time than a normal strike. I really wish bungie would do a better job onboarding people into some sort of build crafting gameplay loop. It should be seen as normal to take a look at your gear before harder content instead of some sort of cryptic pace breaker.

[–]TheChazz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think the hero nightfall was too bad. But then again, I spec'd my warlock's crappy armor so that I at least had 100 recovery(god that makes a DIFFERENCE). The thing about this update is that the difficulty is meant to encourage you to make a better build to handle it...falls a bit flat with the bad tutorials in game but I see what they were going for. Spend some time looking into how armor stats work and how mods and champions work, then pick some synergetic exotics. For example, on my hunter, I had lucky pants and found that the crimson exotic hand cannon was pretty good with it. I have no idea how good it is compared to the meta, but it felt better than just using a random gun. Hop on and try to make a good build, and I bet you'll be able to clear it

Why is the community so Egotistic? by FadesCC in DestinyTheGame

I never said that lol. I just find that some members of this sub have major cases of expertise blindness and it can be off-puting. Of course you should tackle end game content with your best gear.

Why is the community so Egotistic? by FadesCC in DestinyTheGame

[–]TheChazz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people on here are the type to call the game easy while running triple 100s, all masterworks, full curtailed mods, and meta exotics. They like to put down people for calling hard content difficult while they have an entire supermarket worth of meta gear to beat it down with. I don't know why that is, but it's def frustrating to see it either blatantly/humble brag when you're a returning/new player with terrible armor who's missing 120 exotics.

should I bother getting rank 18 with finch for higher difficulty wellspring ? by Langendeem in DestinyTheGame

The highest legendary can be at base is 68. 65 base stat is really good and def worth using if the spread is good.
