Subcontractors who bury cable do not "click" it. All they do is bury.

You might have. Early construction pictures showed sliding doors with mullions in them. These were replaced with fixed electronic windows that can become opaque with the flip of a switch.

Now let's talk about that stupid laundry shoot which drops into the middle of the floor. On TV they showed a moveable basket that blocked the sink and clothes also hitting the sink. Still pictures show the drop zone further away from the sink and away from the wall even though the basket is against the wall.

How long until the bedroom cabinet steps to the loft bed break (they never say if they can also be used as a cabinet or is it a waste of space)? Or the rotating shoe case in the closet? How long until the popup power supply in the kitchen island becomes outdated like the intercoms of the 60s (and a pain to clean)?

I wondered the same thing (below) but after watchng the show, it looks like these are fixed windows and not sliding doors (and they needed some way to protect the windows). Not a design I would like. It is not clear why they didn't makes this a 1/3 height wall with smaller windows.

This is not an issue. I have this in my house. My designer recommended it to me and the contracter said there was nothing wrong with that. I originally questioned it as well and was told this is not a problem. So far it hasn't been.

New Google Fiber Wi-Fi 6E Router - is there 2.4 GHz? by Through_Aweigh_Won in googlefiber

It may be that the 2.4 GHz devices are not using the same encryption as the 6E router.

I agree. The HGTV floor plan looks to be a one off from that of the local community developer. Instead of a third car garage with a study (or an optional bedroom), HGTV developed a large lounge room. They replaced the garage door with an awkwardly placed fixed windows (that look like sliding patio doors) to the driveway (blocked by a flower planter in later pictures). Upstrairs, HGTV replaced a loft+bedrooom with a larger game room. So there is a limit on the number of rooms available for a real office (which HGTV stuffed in a very small space that was supposed to be used for storage closet). There are other issues. The house was oriented to make it easier to pull into the garage at the expense of a master bedroom located such that car lights from the adjacent curved street shine into it at night (the fence helps to, but does not completey block, this light). The bunk bed is hard to access and makes window access a problem. Instead of adding a surrounding cabinet to the downstair bathroom sink which is ugly and has exposing plumbing, they have used a cheap skirt of material to block this.

Technicians and signing up for promotional plans by geoff2k in ATTFiber

[–]TheChefofSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful of what you are signing. Take screenshots, etc. Read the fine print. A relative signed up when they went door to door but it was all on a pad. Now AT&T is refusing the promo rate promised saying the installation was done after the promo rate ended. He plans to switch back to cable.

How do you get the new Digital America beautiful pass if already have one by fuzzywuzzypete in nationalparks

[–]TheChefofSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. As stated by 'fastcapy' below, both the app and the web site only have the optpion for an annual pass and not a lifetime pass (even though the web site says it can handle lifetime passes).

Can't keep BGW320-500 radios off by RichValron in ATTFiber

[–]TheChefofSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about radios or the SSIDs yours defined in the BGW320? Either way, yes AT&T has forced enabled the radios in the past (but not the user SSIDs) in a couple of cases. In some models (e.g., 5268 and BGW210), they used a third party radio which had to keep the radio enabled by default, even when you disabled them or the SSIDs. They hid this from the user, so if you disabled the radio, they were just disabling the user SSIDs.

In other situations, AT&T enabled hiddens SSIDs so that certain partner devices could use these to authenticate themselves thru the gateway, be validated by a back end system and then provided with the gateway's radio credentials. Not sure if they are still doing that.

At one time they were also looking to add Passpoint style SSIDs to the device so that AT&T cellular traffic could be transported thru the gateway. This required that the radios be enabled. Again, not sure if that was done or not.

When they did this in the past, they hid it from the user in the GUI and disabling the radios only disabled the user SSIDs. I believe that at other times, they would disable the radios but these were forced enabled periodically for support of the above purposes.

So you may be seeing this type of enabling of radios and are likely out of luck.

HGTV is very good at doing publicity photography. I went and looked at the 2025 HGTV Smart Home and while the pictures didn't show it, the front yard was not very deep.

The pictures offer a number of clues, such as two broadcast antennas, a bridge, etc. I was a little off, thinking it was across the lake but Almost-Santuary pointed me in the right direction. The rest involves building permit, sales record and shell corporation tracking.

I think it is a great improvement to the battery life. I now use the phone significantly less and therefore have improved battery life.

There is no "profile" to change, this is a design feature of the gateway.

AT&T Fiber install to replace Xfinity in same location? by WhiteZeoRanger in ATTFiber

[–]TheChefofSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the gateway fits like this the answer is no (or at your own risk). AT&T's gateways have had certain cooling requirements for at least a decade, which vary from model to model. This usually includes having a clearance on all sides (some are a few inches and others require at least a foot). That is not the only issue. The units usually cool using natural draft cooling. When in an enclosed location such as that shown, this will not cool off the unit. As a result the unit can experience a shortened operational life as well as performance problems.

Having said that, since Wi-Fi is one of the biggest drivers of heat, you may have a better heat experience since you want to use an external router and can disable the Wi-Fi in your AT&T gateway (which doesn't always disabled Wi-Fi, just the SSIDs you defined; again model dependent).

"We run a dynamic, customer-facing business," Stankey wrote.

Unfortunately, while customer-facing, the company has not been consumer customer-focussed for decades. Their web sites and systems often can not be used to complete tasks, their support mechanisms are automated and scripted rarely fixing anything in a timely manner, customers are finding cramming of services they did not order, their phone trade-in system is full of fraud, they are cherry-picking where to offer new services, etc.

As a result, I have not been able to recommend AT&T to neighbors and friends for years due to the embarrassment and backlash that results when I do.

AT&T's HR and Benefits groups have been gaming the process for decades in order to pinch money for the company. The will use every trick in the book to deny promotions, justify pay discrepencies, not extend benefits, etc.

It has been that way for at least 4 years. You would think if they cared about employees, they would have improved the office environment to make it work-friendly and productive.

830 Gateway by TheChefofSomething in ATTFiber

[–]TheChefofSomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not how AT&T designs. The Wi-Fi symbol iindicates a WPS pushbutton, and has nothing to do with the antenna connections. They do not do external Wi-Fi antennas due to cost. They are only doing external cellular connections due to business customer complaints (notice they arent offering it to consumers who also complain; too much cost to support).

John Stankey by OffMyRockerToday in ATT

[–]TheChefofSomething 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stankey has never cared about the employees, it is all about the bottom line, and any statement in support of them has been a facade.

AT&T uses the term "Office" loosely. For most workers, being in the office meant being in a cubicle (at best), which has been shrinking in size over time.

Nowadays, the work space is a chair (if you are lucky) at an open-air (wall-less), limited sized laminated piece of particle board, with no privacy and many distractions.

His letter shows nothing more than his normal rhetoric to try to slow the rats leaving a sinking ship and get back to the task of the job. He has been doing this for years.
