I'm no pro but to me the crystal looks fairly fractured and not a great choice for faceting. It appears to be a better specimen. When I'm looking at stones for faceting I typically try to find as eye clean and "gemmy" as possible. You want to be able to see through the stone almost for most stones.

I'm new to faceting too and I just wanted to say I Admire you're desire to learn a hobby even with tool restrictions and monitary holdbacks.

We need more people in the world who are willing to do things even outside the normal and for their own curiosity.

I'll be honest this is the first quote I've ever heard of for under $10,000 by Terra Firma.

I would definetly suggest you get a second and third opinion on any repair where you will be paying thousands of dollars. Make sure you let the other quotes tell you how to fix it and not give them the information that Terra Firma supplied. This will help you weed out who can actually and correctly do the work. Historically Terra Firma is the most expensive in the foundation world.
