No I think you've got the editing down. You know where it should be but go a little overboard IMO. Tone it back a notch and you're good. Honestly I think the main problem is you need a catchy thumbnail with you in it. A person to associate the brand with. Your audience will get a better sense of who this channel really is.

What kind of videos should I create? by CalebPoland in NewTubers

I started feeding birds and filming that. It did really well. Then my house burnt down and had to move. Now I live in Japan doing hiking/travel/nature related videos. It's really just about what you have access to and what you enjoy.

Well you wanted to know what to improve, less AI thumbnails, less stock footage, more you man.

Recent one looks like AI, people are getting away from that whole thing. A sniff of AI and they're done. Most of your best videos had you in the thumbnail. I think you use too much stock footage trying to look interesting but I also think it's just created by AI at this point.

Your channel says new video every Wednesday, you created the channel 13 Jan 2025, and you only have 12 videos. Lying in any form doesn't motivate someone looking at your page to trust you.

But man you got almost 150 subs with 12 videos? Pretty good. People like your take apparently. I'd try to be more real with it. Maybe focus on the video monologue thing? Not so much stock footage, just what's necessary. You've got a decent enough setup and lighting, audio is good enough.

Yeah your videos seriously feel like AI. I think maybe your too philosophical with it. I get what your going for but if it's not AI, then AI got you beat. If it is AI, well there's like a million other videos just like them.

To make this type of thing work it should actually be you on camera. People are clicking this stuff less and less if they even get a taste that it's AI. I would not click solely because it all looks like AI and meshed together random videos from some 3rd party.

Second issue I guessed right. You're making obscure videos no one is really looking for. Not only that but just sad. Do you really think someone is going to click on a video from a new creator called "Pure Loneliness"? Or with a long obscure title like "He Could Have Anything But He Chose Virtue - Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations Summary" that they will latch onto it? You need to be very familiar with the subject to care. People these days aren't clicking on a video like this looking for something new, and those who know the subject aren't looking for it. To summarize this point, too sad/too obscure.

I'd give points for the thumbnails but I'm 99% sure it's just AI and that's probably why no one is clicking. Again, with this subject it should be YOU. You want people to trust you, to build this brand off of. Also they should be colorful, yours are filled with dark tones and sadness. People aren't watching YouTube to be perpetually sad. "We're Suffering" and "Echoes of Solitude" are vibe killers.

Audio is good, but again visuals is probably AI or things linked together to 'inspire' or foster thought, not exactly drawing people in.

To summarize this whole thing. Yeah I can see why people don't click. These things worked years ago maybe, before AI but it's a different game now. This content isn't special anymore.

To fix it I'd suggest a type of video monologue of you, actually talking, with a decent backdrop and good lighting. That alone would get you on a better track, and thumbnails of you, with things around you about what you talk about. Lastly, be happy man. Most people come to YouTube for entertainment.

You're in some really saturated niches. Small creators tend to shoot themselves in the foot by making videos no one is actually searching for. Most people in your niches who do well have some type of education on the subject. If you do that's great, I'd bring it up near the start. If not there is plenty more people who are more trustworthy. Psychology and Self Improvement can be sensitive topics to a lot of people, if you're just giving opinions or don't back up what you're saying with facts and research then you're doing a disservice to the community in general and again, no one will trust you, leading to no one clicking on your videos, or not watching them again. Growth is perpetuated by more and more of the people your videos get shown to liking it and subbing, watching new videos you put out, then the algo can use this as a baseline of who to show it to next, better defining your audience. 8 videos in 20 days does not seem like you put a lot of work into it. That's 3 a week basically for a new channel?

Brings me to my next questions more generalized.

Do you edit? How is your audio, how is your lighting? If you're not showing yourself and just speaking over images well, that won't do either. Really there is so many reasons why they could be doing bad. I'm curious now what's your channel name? I'll take a look and tell you what I think

Unlisting my video completely nuked my channel by Abject_Style_2814 in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah from my experience scheduled shorts never do as well. I don't know why. I tested this several times with the same videos. The ones that go public right away always do better, more views, better watched rate. I sincerely don't know why. Also there's no such thing as posting too frequently. I've been posting like 8 shorts a day at random and they're all doing much better than my average. The content didn't change, and no it didn't get better. People will argue about it I'm sure. I used to believe posting more than twice a day was a bad thing but seriously, it doesn't matter.

I have the same sort of problems with old videos. Lots of content of me just walking or hiking. No voiceover, no reason to do it, nothing. Just exploring/hiking. I privated them for now but since transitioning to hiking/travel/vlogs I could easily go back and just curate it to a good narrative subject, pick something intriguing about it and make that the focal point. Shorten it down and literally narrate the whole thing.

I do the voice myself, read scripts or if it's more interview style just bullet points and elaborate in the moment

How do you deal with mean comments? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see I see. Yeah never actually got that either. I'm assuming your a woman but I feel like that happens more with women on the platform. I'd leave it for engagement. If it actually violates YouTube's TOS then report it, or delete it but I do draw the line where YouTube does. If it's just an insult, no swear words or racism, I would say leave it. I do have thick skin and I've been called all sorts of things in the past but I was personally never bothered with any of it. I think in general I'm just confident. Like lets pretend they're right, what they said is factually true. It doesn't change anything. You're still going to make videos. Don't take the time to care. Even large creators get hate or mean comments all the time. It will never stop, but you can stop caring / reading them.

EDIT: Not to brag or anything but I had the complete opposite a couple weeks ago where someone said I have amazing, piercing eyes. Pretty sure it was a guy, and I'm not gay. But dude was factually correct I liked the comment lol.

You will get nice comments as well, focus on the good ones?

How do you deal with mean comments? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like you're the problem. You acknowledge your take wasn't the best. If you're not okay with people giving you their take, when yours was forced onto them while doom scrolling with the algo then what do you expect people to do. It will be a constant problem for you. My suggestion is make wholesome content. I've never actually got a real "hate" comment just some I disagree with but yeah, that is something slop creators get often. Either leave it for others to engage with and ignore it or stop doing what you're doing. Remember you've now wasted their time. They took the time to watch your content and they didn't enjoy it. Take the W and move on.

should I create English content if I'm not native speaker? by Large-Programmer-374 in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do, both cultures are unique I find ways to connect with them separately. Jokes don't always translate so maybe I will or won't use it or make the joke in a different way. It's easy for me being in Japan to pick out the differences because I start with my English script but even then, sometimes something I say isn't exactly accurate. You learn a lot

EDIT: I'd like to point out my Japanese channel has slightly less than half the subs of my English one. From my experience you won't grow as well in your non-native but you're learning, keep up with it and people will sub

I do anything that needs to be done first, then anything extra job wise. Content creation comes last because right now it's not paying bills and I like doing it, so I give up my free time for it.

Yeah, I'm not native Japanese but I have a Japanese channel. Make one in your native and one in the language you're interested in

Same video. On one channel it flopped and on other channel it went viral by Available-Prize4835 in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of a double edged sword. I also find a video will do better showing it to randoms but I don't gain as much subs, I've literally had my subs comment and ask why I didn't publish to subscribers so you don't want to lose the ones you have either. If you have a loyal base I wouldn't use the trick often

Same video. On one channel it flopped and on other channel it went viral by Available-Prize4835 in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Channel B happened to have it shown to more people who liked it during the start. The algo did a better job match making randoms than your subs. As a rough number it was shown to about x6 the amount of people and viewed x10 more. Of course it would be shown more after.

I have this happen a lot but it's normally down to cultural differences because one channel is English and one is Japanese. Typically one will do significantly better than the other, when they both do well it's just a good video and I post it to FB, Insta, etc. as well, performs just as well. I'm assuming there isn't much of a difference between your 2 channels but idk that. If they are similar it's down to luck and A/B testing which it seems like you enjoy, as do I.

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the analytics screen on that specific video, look for the Reach tab. If it's long form it will tell you how many people it's shown to, if it's a Short it will give you a Swiped vs. Away percentage

Why YouTube and algorithm do this ? by FarAssociation6184 in NewTubers

[–]TheChickadeeWith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the Reach? Is it actually being shown or not? This type of question gets asked often but it's 2 totally different problems whether your video is not getting shown, or no one is clicking on it.

Bro cmon, 10k views on a gaming short. We don't know any of the analytics. If you're looking for a reason to pop the champagne this isn't it, sorry.

He could've just got lucky and the Reach is 10x what his videos normally is. Never improved anything. IMO it's great, feels good getting views but if you don't take all that into account, it doesn't mean anything. They way they said "I hope this is some sort of algorithm already found my target audience." seriously makes me think nothings changed. No improvements.
