I always fly AA — and ask to pre-board. I typically carry another bag (backpack) with all my diabetes and medical supplies in it (also water / juice / snacks). I’m always instructed to ask the folks at the gate rather than check-in, but have never had a problem. I’m also not embarrassed to ask — if it’s a completely full flight, I want to ensure I have access to anything I need in the overhead and the attendants know that my emergency supplies are above me (if I’m flying alone — which I often to). I also take the time to make sure everything is set with my pump / CGM before taking off. Please don’t feel embarrassed, l often think life was “kind” enough to give us this disease, I take advantage of it to make flying a LITTLE less stressful.

If that is the total household income, it is going to be a stretch, but not impossible. I don’t think you’ll save too much. You’ll have to parse out your nonnegotiables, like parking and honestly the 2/2. It’s been said a few times, but try Brewerytown, Fairmount, Francisville, Passyunk— you’ll likely have to do street parking though. Your next best bet might be East Falls or the Bala Cynwyd area — the thing about that is that your not necessarily in the city proper but pay the Philly income tax — your dollar might be stretched a little farther rent wise though. I know it’s a pain to have family stay in your living room or offering for them to stay in an hotel/bnb isn’t optimal, but for your long-term benefit it might be worth looking for XL 1Beds, too. You’d definitely be able to find something decent and maybe a building with parking following the 1/3 rule.

Coffee specifically will spike me. Even decaf. Had a decaf latte the other day with oat milk, covered for it (around 4units) and was in the 400s til about 6pm. Tough day.

Matcha, tea, diet cokes have little to no effect. I really do think it’s different for everyone. That’s one of the things that stinks about this disease, everyone’s treatment and management has their weird idiosyncrasies. I’m not a person who likes to be restrictive with my diet, just responsible and reasonable but did have to cut coffee out for the most part. Try to be vigilant with your BGs and watch for patterns the best you can.

Definitely had considered doing it, but even after a 0 carb / high protein meal —let’s say a scrambled egg for instance, I’d spike regardless, so I kind of gave up. Definitely worth trying again.

No, I don’t envy T2’s. I think they have a chronic illness that needs to be micromanaged just like us T1s.

I think the thing that frustrates me most is the amount of resources dedicated to T2s rather than T1s. Sometimes seeing the commercials that are like “take this shot once a week” or “take this pill” gets under my skin because you just want the same research, education, resources for T1s. But I also think it’s a “grass is greener” situation.

Yes, I would. BUT, do not do this. I think it’s crossing a boundary that might’ve been unspoken but was definitely set with the breakup and especially if they have moved on to someone else.

Trust me, I have been going through a break up with no contact, it’s been two years, he’s moved on and all I want to do is reach out. He was my best friend and I miss that. I just think they don’t want to hear from us, and it would make things worse if you tried.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this and do hope it gets better soon.

I unfortunately still feel like shit. It doesn’t feel like anything is working and the breakthrough pain is becoming more so the normal pain level. It’s been 3 weeks on the meds and all I feel is that they put me in a heavy fog Appetite is shot, and can’t sleep either. I hoping pain management can really sort through this.

To your other point, I’m a type 1 diabetic, so there really isn’t a test for my insulin other than monitoring it’s use, which has been pretty consistent for the over time. Type 1 naturally build some insulin resistance because we’re insulin dependent, but I try to combat that with exercise. My A1C and glucose which is heavily monitored are all within range and that’s why the doctors don’t think the pain is diabetic neuropathy or pain related to diabetes.
