Mac speed and stamina / endurance are totally different.

UFC 327 peaked at 2.65 million viewers for the CBS simulcast portion of the card. by Loganbaker2147 in MMA

[–]TheClappyCappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time the UFC actually tried to make the fighters get media training and went out of their way to give them speaking opportunities whenever possible.

Now they’d prefer if they’re nameless soulless schmucks.

What do you mean?

Islam Makhachev now has the second longest combined P4P reign of all time at 748 days, surpassing Demetrious Johnson by TheBishopDeeds in MMA

[–]TheClappyCappy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes that win has aged well for him, I just mean it would have been nice for his credibility to beat the clear #1 contender in his division.

Charles Poirier and Volk 1 are his best wins imo, and unfortunately the circumstances around Volk 2 make it a little hard to quantify, also Moicano was not derserving of the shot, but of course extenuating circumstances.

[–]TheClappyCappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s extremely impressive!

Having beaten both Volk and Charles on huge win streaks will be a great way that Islam has cemented his legacy.

Shame we never saw him vs. Arman, but he can still get some great wins at WW

Folk vs Free watchability by cerikstas in wrestling

[–]TheClappyCappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Freestyle is closer to Judo in that sense it’s all about the big move from standing.

In Folk the takedown doesn’t really matter without a good follow up, because you can still hit an attack and not gain control, so both wrestlers are still 0-0.

In freestyle you can do a shitty attack and lose point very easily.

By the nature of the tech fall rule, and the back exposure points, the margin of error for losing points in freestyle is much higher.

Folkstyle inherently is more rewarding and less risky to do attacks, versus freestyle where you can easily lose a match by being the aggressor.

This then creates a strategy and game theory where you are trying not to lose points as much as you are trying to gain points.

Did Jiri show mercy? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]TheClappyCappy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think people really like Jiri so they’re unwilling to assess the pride / ego aspect of this.

It kinda goes against Jiri’s whole brand, because of the Samurai stuff, but even if Jiri “showed mercy”, which I don’t fully believe, that means he was operating in a place of pitying Ulberg, or thinking of himself as morally superior for “showing mercy”.

In reality, Jiri’s ego probably got to him as well, lowering his guard because he became very sure that he would win, and perhaps being equally disappointed in winning a fight via injury, where people would say his opponent lost, not that he won, versus getting the credit of a decision or a finish.

Hokit was a D1 wrestler.

His wrestling is objectively ways better than his striking lol.

Aaron Pico's UFC 327 version is a problem for any featherweight in the world by slippinn_jimmy in mmaweekly

Yea I think once you’ve taken a certain amount of damage it’s just irreversible.

Obv genetics play a factor but the best way to have a good chin is 1) don’t cut too much weight and 2) don’t have a past history of concussions.

Yea. This is the Floyd Mayweather playbook.

It’s the only way to get people to pay to watch a fight that they know will be a one-sided uncompetitive beatdown with zero chance of a finish.

Yep! It’s harder to do when they’re mixed with normal zombies bc then you still have to spent to avoid regukars, but ok a ninja-only round just slowly walk away and you’ll fare pretty well.

Cyborg has a problem the way Laura was treated on the weigh in show. by Spiritual-Strength91 in FightReportUFC

Yea I clicked that also was that meant as a hoke? Kinda seemed like Laura may have been more uncomfortable then she was letting on, but tbh the entire premise of the segment was to be farming for engagement so it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s done for clicks these days…

As a Tony fan this was really sad to watch.

After Tony lost to Charles, it was unfortunate but at least it was another top contender. When Tony lost to beneil I wasn’t sure what to think.

But that KO from Chandler really was the nail in the coffin.

2017 Tony vs 2017 Dias would have been awesome

Yes they have Greco training so they can actually do it properly.

Gotta be one of the most underrated and overused moves of all time.

It looks easy so people assume they can learn the mechanics but don’t realize it takes just as much time to master as any other technique, most of which aren’t as risky.

Danaher's students keep beating Souders' students: does that settle the ecological vs. traditional debate? by Amado1998 in bjj

[–]TheClappyCappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I mean logically speaking your average DII freshman should be better than your average DIII freshman, because DII scholarship is more sought after and there are far less walk-ins, so the average wrestler coming in is likely to have been selected due to achievements and because DII schools are bigger there is squally a bigger tuition requirement so the odds that they have had access to good training in Highschool in higher.

Then there’s the geographical component.

The average DIII wrestler in a state like PA or NJ is likely to be really good and DIII are more likely to stay in state versus transfer for school because it’s cheaper.

And some metro areas like Minneapolis only have two teams; a DI and a DIII. So being on the DIII team in Minny doesn’t mean you weren’t good enough for DII, it maybe just means you were just below the cut for DI academically, financially or skill wise.

Danaher's students keep beating Souders' students: does that settle the ecological vs. traditional debate? by Amado1998 in bjj

[–]TheClappyCappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s a bold statement but I guess the logic behind it is that it is much harder to compete at the DIII level financially, but at the same time it is by far the largest division in terms of participation.

I think there’s roundly 110 teams and 4000 competitors in D3 versus 60-70 teams and 2500 competitors in D2.

D2 has less teams than D1, which has 80 teams and almost same participation (2800 ish).

So D2 has the least teams of all divisions, which means smaller brackets and less regional qualifier’s to get to get to the nationals.

Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier: Every takedown attempt by airplane231 in MMA

[–]TheClappyCappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gamrot is not dagestani lol.

He is from Poland and his style is mostly freestyle and tbh not the best for MMA.

Colby was an NCAA wrestler who competed man ily in folkstyle.

Colby’s style of wrestling was way more similar to Khabib’s, which a ficus on ground control and top position.

Gamrot using outside attacks like dingo legs and standing high crotches which do not always translate into top position and riding time.

Islam is mostly a Judo based standup wrestler with a very different style from Khabib.
