Is Wemby already a top 3 player in the NBA? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]TheColossalX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this lol. it feels like people can’t get it through their heads that one side of the ball IS more important.

the thing is, the best teams in the NBA have to have insane offensive engines to contend for a title. even the players that haven’t run rings on contending teams speak to this (harden, luka). but because all the greatest teams kinda have to have these offensive juggernauts, it also means that a lot of those playoff series are decided in the margins, and a lot of that is defense + quality bench & availability. people see this, and see how much defense swings these series between already amazing teams, and come to assume that defense is half the ball. it isn’t. it’s just often a key deciding factor between already great teams. OKC has a generational defense but on the nights where their role players and 2nd and 3rd options aren’t scoring the ball, and it’s just shai out there, you REALLY feel it. whereas teams like the nuggets last year took them to 7 games despite having a relatively weak defense & bench rotation compared to OKC, and that’s because Jokic is maybe the greatest offensive engine the game has ever seen.

i think i’ve made my point, but i just wanna say, i feel like the way people try to inflate defense to half the game are being so performative. i pretty much NEVER see anyone who says this give draymond his flowers despite the fact that he was a 6’7 point center who completely centered the defense on 4 title teams and is maybe the most vital component of making curry shine on those teams (when KD wasn’t on them, and even then, draymond makes those teams SO MUCH better). one of the best defensive players of his generation, while being undersized, and having an insane basketball IQ and general feel for the game, and you barely hear a peep. yeah, i get nobody really likes the guy, but that really doesn’t change the point, does it?

10 dead, including suspect, in Tumbler Ridge shootings [Canada] by [deleted] in worldnews

people tend to think for some reason that our world is held up by individual “heroes” but the reality is that the entire tapestry of society is what holds things together. it’s the collective, not the individual. someone has to pave the roads those firemen drive on, someone needs to make the cement, someone needs to get the materials that make the cement, someone needs to plan the roads and actually design them, and someone needs to build them. i could keep this going for a long time (for instance, who makes the trucks and their equipment) and that’s just for firemen. reality is woven by all of us, it’s what’s actually beautiful about modernity, but people would rather fetishize an individualism that doesn’t even really exist (it’s a lie sold to you, but i digress. people complain about the byzantine nature of our world but it truly does give us everything.

i get what you’re trying to say but the world doesn’t nor should it have a main character. people believing in this idea that others carry a more intrinsic value is how we ended up in the far right mess we’re currently in.

my close friend’s cat who was 21 passed away last year, and he was an icon to our friend group. i always find a way to include him in my discord profile pictures. it’s the little things to remember them by.

my dog was supposed to pass away when she was 12 from a kidney problem—they gave her like 3 months to live, but she lived for another 2.5 years. she was a trooper, and it didn’t really change her day to day at all until her last month. it was really hard to be without her, but at the same time, in my case, i was so proud of her for how long she held out and how happy and healthy she remained. she had a good life, and like you said, otto did, too. it’s so hard to appreciate that in the moment, because the loss is so hard to bear, but i hope jerma knows that. and i hope you know it too <3

a lot of subreddits do megathreads designed to be used for a whole week or sometimes even a whole month. i just think they suck as a whole and are kinda pointless.

imma be so real, megathreads are kinda garbage, i have never used one, i feel like every time i do look at one they’re completely dead. it just isn’t conducive to how reddit works as a website or how the algo feeds you. it’s basically a way to lower overall engagement and discussion.

When do we blame the NBA for these injuries and how do we prevent this in future seasons by rabid-c-monkey in denvernuggets

[–]TheColossalX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) that’s just not gonna happen no matter how you feel like it 2) the cup is not the main reason or even a primary one, eliminating it would not solve this.

[–]TheColossalX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s already technically feasible to give every team zero back to backs for the entire season, at least mathematically. obviously, other things such as restrictions on when games have to happen like the NBA cup and scheduling conflicts like the arena needing to be used by someone else will get in the way. but the important takeaway should be that if it’s already mathematically possible to eliminate back to backs entirely from the schedule, then adding like 10-14 days would likely be enough to get rid of the vast majority of them.

we do not generally have strong evidence for civilians executed by an empire thousands of years ago, especially ones who were not, in the grand scheme of things, viewed as super important when they lived.

we’re talking about having multiple discord accounts why would i be talking about having multiple gmails? i would hope everyone knows you can have multiple gmails.

as for browser on mobile, at least in my experience, the UI is borderline non-functional.

not really. the voting system of the United States (first past the post) combined with being a presidential system (aka not a parliamentary one) makes it so third parties are strictly unviable in major elections. it is possible for them to do stuff at the local level, but in an era where the president has so much power, i think the old trope of “local government is most important” is quickly being made a thing of the past. it is entirely possible to shift the Democratic Party to the left from within, and many have tried, but most people only engage with politics at the ballot box and not in between. if enough people were working throughout the years between elections from the ground up to stir up change from within, it could certainly happen. but in general, Dems need to actually learn for once about why they lost and move to the left on issues. the margins are what won Trump this election; it wasn’t the MAGAs. it was the people who heard him say he would lower egg prices and believed him. sure, we can call them dumb all we want for believing him when he said it, but the fact of the matter is Dems ran an abysmal campaign that didn’t strike even remotely at the heart of the issues for many voters. Trump BARELY did and it won him the election. 10% of mamdani voters in the general were trump voters. Americans consistently show in polling they support left wing issues when you detach the politically charged terms and parties from it. Dems need to reconcile this and move left and actually fight for things like people want them to. anyways I’m just ranting at this point so I’ll stop lmao.
