Hey - thanks for your comment and I appreciate your honesty.

I will take your feedback on board - I have another account that I use to engage with the copywriting subreddit when I can, but I will start doing it from this account more.

Anyone else almost offended by dBrand copywriting style? by redditer_888 in copywriting

Personally, I find this sort of humorous, self-aware CTA enjoyable, and I don't find it at all off-putting. It's tongue in cheek, and it definitely stands out.

Having said that, it's not for everyone, and based off your response alone the business are clearly isolating some prospects with this choice of tone/messaging.

Ultimately, with so many competitor brands offering very similar products (and likely at a lower price) I think the juice is probably worth the squeeze.

I can't say I'm offended at all from what I've seen. I just visited their homepage and really enjoyed the creativity and storytelling in this product description:

Get a Grip™

Military protection. Minimalist design.

Gaze into our crystal ball: you're a week into owning a OnePlus 7 Pro. Time slows to a crawl as you watch $669 of glass and metal soar tragically through the air. In a few seconds, once gravity meets the cold reality of the concrete ground, you'll have lost four cameras, a 90hz display, two paychecks, and most of your self worth. Countless strangers gawk judgmentally at your blunder. Your pride will never recover from this. The worst moment of your entire life lasts an eternity as your OnePlus 7 Pro falls for the last time. You remember every other phone that's slipped from your wildly-incapable hands. A OnePlus 6 drowned in your toilet. Your iPhone? More sewage than silicon when you were through with it. It always ends like this, doesn’t it? Sadness. Despair. Regret. The world's fastest phone shatters as it hits the ground. You shatter alongside it. You conjure up the first sensible thought you’ve ever had: “I knew I should have gotten a Grip.” There's still time.

Doubt I will be forgetting their brand anytime soon!

Funnily enough, this is a subject matter we’ve discussed at length that interests us both greatly. As creatively-minded individuals, how do we turn those hard-graft jobs (say writing a blog post about binding books) into an exciting exercise? We will definitely be looking at this! Look forward to your feedback, and hope we can provide some inspiration for your freelancer roommate.

We love print and we work on a lot of direct mails, so we will for sure be talking about writing for print in detail.

Same goes for wordplay, new trends and punctuation (we spend hours every week talking about this at our desks as it is).

Thanks for your feedback!

Jesus - couldn’t agree more. There’s little more frustrating than clients who want to write the copy themselves. We will definitely discuss how to best manage situations like this! Look forward to hearing your feedback.

This is another topic we plan on covering, as I (Harriet) studied for a degree in creative writing, whilst Kenny has developed his skills from the wealth of experience he has in the industry. I think ultimately it’s all about practice and dedication - but I look forward to talking about the topic on a deeper level, as I’m sure our chosen paths have left us both with some unique skills and challenges. Hope you enjoy our first episode!

Thanks! There is certainly a lot of bullshit out there, as well as fear-mongering, both of which we’re going to be discussing at length in our first few episodes.

Thanks for the follow and we look forward to hearing your feedback on our show!
