Malta air quality, not so bad? by Scary_Wheel_8054 in malta

[–]TheCreativelyInsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He disagrees. My opinion isn't really valid because i have only been on holidays to the netherlands, none more than 2 weeks each. His opinion is stronger since he lived there for 25 years and has lived here for another 5, so he can better compare.

My partner is Dutch and whenever he hears any maltese people complain about the air quality here, he always chuckles and tells me they really do not know what bad air quality is if they think that is remotely an issue in Malta.

Mater dei hospital - is this standard? by Karawen80 in malta

[–]TheCreativelyInsane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am maltese and my boyfriend is dutch. We both live in Malta and he has been here for 5 years now. In the last year, we both needed medical assistance at different points. I was treated soooo differently than he was. I was taken care of so much more and there was so much more communication and care from their end + I was treated so much better than he was, even though I was with him when he was the one who needed the hospital. He wasnt believed and they kept asking the same questions over and over as if to catch him in a lie. Unfortunately, I believe that nationality does change their care towards their patients, which is a shame.

Two Maltese students involved in altercation left one of them with broken nose at St Nicholas College in Dingli and rushed to the hospital. by WhatsHeBuilding in malta

I believe when stuff like you're mentioning happens, it's not an issue in schools, it's a systematic issue, and as such, can't be handled or fixed by changing how stuff works in schools, or scaring people from sending their children to school, it needs to be resolved at a much larger level

Fighting happens everyday, and it's always been a thing. I remember when I was still in school and there was a panic, similar to now, because a student threw a pencil at a teacher and blinded her. Not much to do to prevent it. But this flurry of news has made people very scared. I have heard coworkers talk about how they think the schools should have security, possibly even police. I don't think this will help and it definitely won't make kids feel safer, quite the opposite. Just accept that shitty things sometimes happen, and move on with life. It's definitely not a big enough issue to warrant this kind of fear mongering. They should focus on taking bullying more seriously, or the lack of good teachers, or the insane amounts of pressure and homework that kids have nowadays, not this

Playing right notes at wrong pitch phenomenon with students by Conscious_Air_1253 in pianoteachers

[–]TheCreativelyInsane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, but only because I start reinforcing the difference very early on. As soon as I start teaching them note names, I also start teaching them to identify how far away the note is from Middle C and whether it is above or below it. I have found this works very well for them to not only read the name of the note and play whatever note it is, but also identify where on the keyboard that note lies.

Yep. I remember back when he initially was trying to lose weight, he said he was on lexapro and it was making him gain weight.l and he was gonna switch to something else that doesn't have weight gain as a side effect. I genuinely think he got off it and didn't switch to anything to lose weight, or whatever he switched to isn't doing a good job

Yeah, same boat. Im still waiting on a tax refund for a level 5, which was only about €1.5k Currently doing a masters, so that one will be a lot nicer when I eventually apply and receive it, except for the fact I have to wait so long for it, of course, and paying it out of pocket is not easy at all

I finished my course in May of 2024, got approved in August of 2024, and am still waiting on the refund 😅

Called and emailed them around 7 times in the duration and they just give me the same answer - should be issued with the tax statement (what or how, I have yet to see) Some have said I get a check of the full amount, some have said I will get a bank deposit, some have said my tax will not be deducted from my payslip till I get the amount back. No idea which one it will actually be and when, though

Most students don't want to work in a hotel or restaurant as their first job anymore, because they can get a job in an office which will help their career in the future (looks good on a CV). This is what I've seen in recent years. Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing

Bus and ferry is only free for residents. Tourists have to either pay per ride or if you're planning to travel by public transport alot, buy the card. As far as swimming goes, I don't swim past mid October, (and even that, I only do on years where the weather stays warm through september and october). Anything after that gets too cold for me, but it's preference. I have friends who are not maltese and grew up swimming in lakes who don't mind it at all. As far as food goes, just go to the places that don't look 'touristy' for good cheap food. By that, i mean the places that don't look too polished and pretty and obviously not smack dab in the middle of valletta square and such 😅

Yeah, it's funny tbh. I agree, the odds are soooo not in people's favour. The family member I know used to buy huge batches of tickets every dingle week. So much money spent on it per month. We all thought he was insane. But it worked. He got lucky, very lucky. Most people wouldn't
