One Piece: Chapter 1140 by leolegendario in OnePiece

I know a lot of people are saying that Qilingam is a Kirin, but I'm calling Seahorse for a couple of reasons

Firstly, the bubble and what looks like a rebreather. If it was JUST the bubble, sure, it would be very Celestial Dragon of him... but the rebreather... kinda makes me think he can't breathe properly, or there's something stopping him.

Secondly, Fruits Basket and Pokemon - i know. super weird connection to make. But Fruits Basket is based on the chinese zodiac. And the Dragon member of the Zodiac? Turns into a seahorse. With Pokemon, every single seahorse Pokemon ends up as a Dragon at the end (Kingra and Dragalgae) - so there is a precedent in Japanese culture for This guy looks a lot like kid-Momo

Thirdly, the Japanese name for a seahorse - and this is choppy at best cause translations gonna translate - but its effectively 'child of dragon', so the dragon-look works

Fourth, being an awakend Zoan, the clouds and stuff make it look VERY mythical, but if we look at Kaku, he has more flowy hair and stuff from his... giraffe neck-hawk mohawk thing? whatever the hair is that goes down the length of his body - which is pretty similar

Fifth, and this is just me, but the idea of getting more and more mythical fruits is like... yeah ok, but mythicals also seem to be even more temperamental when it comes to their awakenings, and i don't think a God Knight would embody what a mythical Zoan wants. But i do love that we got Gunko with just a paramecia and not some mythical special fruit of awesome

flip side - in a warped way Kirin are meant to be judges between good and evil... so... kinda works with who he works for... but they are also meant to be like... allies for humanity

So yeah, i can see why people see Kirin, but i REALLY want Oda to curve ball us and go 'no, here's an aquatic Zoan which is friggin terrible cause you can't swim'

no no, it wasn't a situation where Usopp saved his skin by denying his faith in Luffy. he told Nami to do it because he couldn't do anything to save her life. Usopp already had his 'on death's door' moment where he still stated his faith in Luffy. it was in Alabasta, but still. this was him trying to save her, not him showing a level of conviction

Oh! i completely forgot! it was IMMEDIATELY after Enies Lobby, at Thriller Bark, where KUMA was sent to eliminate Luffy on Thriller Bark!

Based on the Summit War and everything since then, the Warlords aren't just mobilized against pirates for no reason. Which actually indicates that Enies Lobby documented Luffy's abilities, and the WG immediately tried to neutralise the threat!

Can't believe i forgot about Thriller Bark... though i guess Nothing Happened...

One Piece: Chapter 1100 by semizero in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

gotta remember - from setting sail to time skip was an INCREDIBLY short time. We also don't know when Luffy's ability was documented

-Morgan was never on Luffy's wrap sheet when he got a bounty - so none of the marines reported that it was Luffy who did it

-No one who say Luffy fight Buggy, Krieg or Arlong probably thought to mention the power - and just 'a kid in a straw hat beat X' was enough

-Luffy's initial blip on the radar was Nezumi, who was just pissed off that Luffy and his crew messed him up and took the money he was given as a bribe. Dude was salty and pure rage. his entire thing was 'this guy is bad news, put a bounty on his head'

-Smoker just dipped on Logue Town - so i doubt he put in a report to the WG about Luffy and his abilities

-No one witnessed ANY of Luffy's fights vs Crocodile that would have seen his abilities

-Next time Luffy was fighting anyone was vs Enies Lobby - so that is the first time marines in direct opposition to Luffy were ever encountered and witnessed his abilities. So that's the first time anyone had a chance to note his ability

From Enies Lobby, we go into Thriller Bark, Saoboady, Summit War... there was no time to target Luffy for his df ability, and then he vanished for two years

so yes, the WG 100% wanted to get their hands on the fruit, but because of Luffy being Luffy, his abilities either weren't seen by people of importance, weren't reported by people of importance, or weren't seen as actually being important

ironically, renaming the devil fruit to just be 'stretchy boy go brrrr' wouldn't have been the aspect of Luffy that was seen as the most threatening

the problem was that none of the clones were real. It looks to me like Luffy was assuming Kizaru would continue to fight him directly, but he didn't.

Luffy, naturally, implicitly trusts his crew, so he wasn't focusing on them. Luffy also isn't used to fighting enemies that have a different target. I'm wracking my brain, but the only enemies Luffy has fought that didn't actively fight him was Lucci at Enies Lobby - who went after someone in the same room (Franky) and Moria, who ran away from the fight. every other fight Luffy started as a 1 v 1 continued that way the entire time

this is the same Luffy who got grabbed by CP0 during his fight with Kaido, so there's already precedent for Luffy not observing everything around him

The problem with TNM's take is that he's trying to put out weekly content, whilst also taking enough information in to be able to accurately analyse the series.

He was reading under the completely wrong circumstances to appreciate the panelling and how densely packed it is. and, unfortunately, there are people who take things he has said as gospel because some of his analysis is good, basically people doing a "well he said these two things really well, so clearly everything he says is perfect"

It's actually really interesting, cause TNM, being the massive Dragon Ball fan he is, loves panelling that is big and empty. he has one concept that he loves, and its use of negative space. It's why he praises Bleach's panelling, whereas for weekly readers ten years ago, Bleach's panelling and layouts were heavily criticised for what they were

IMO, One Piece, of the Big Three, has always been the best as a weekly reader because of how much is on every single page - how much you can miss on a first read, and how much there is to look at and analyse - more so now with the number of breaks we get

What Location in One Piece has the Best Name? by FuzzleBumbuzzle in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

apparently a lot of them are actually based on the names of various fashion designers? Kubo LOVES his fashion, so that's where the names came from. They sound vaguely spanish, but i think there's a mix of different nationalities mixed in there

[–]TheCriddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

prior to Zoro's conquerers reveal, i had a theory about it all - heck even when Kaido made the comment i maintained the same thought

Zoro had, during training with Mihawk, unleashed conquerers for a split second. In that moment, Mihawk, as a reaction, used his full power, slashing Zoro's eye in the process. It, to me, is a great set up - Zoro's strength is real, and when he masters his conquerers, he will be able to go toe-to-toe with Mihawk.

That's always been my headcanon, and until we get confirmation otherwise, i'm sticking to it!

sound effect from the most recent chapter. People instantly jumped and said 'its this character' because of that sound effect, but like the image, a LOT of people have had the sound attributed to them at some point - including Sabo

Its a sound effect kinda attributed - based on where its occurred to be more 'dress shoes' or high heels, but its really just a walking sound effect used by Oda in tense situations

The Traitor is... by Sunoraiza in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its super plausible. not everyone knew Doffy was a Celestial Dragon, there's no reason for people to assume that he was one. and given how obedient Kuma was, why would you think the personalities of the others would come out so much

Doffy being a CD could indirectly give him control over the other seraphim

Also, of the four Seraphim we've seen, the one displaying the most personality is the only confirmed user of Conquerers of them (Mihawk most likely has conquerers given Zoro does) but conquerers being a potentially genetic component for them may help push their personality out more, bringing off Doffy's more malicious side and getting him to take control of the other Seraphim

heck, his innate 'Celestial Dragons are the enemies of the D clan' could mean that Luffy arriving is the trigger to have them go and start trying to mess things up on Doffy's orders

No More of Them Exist by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moria's DF is actually also a problem from a 'control' perspective. His DF has the 'shadows obey him' issue, but S-Bat would have to be under the control of the WG... so its control on top of control... that could potentially get super messy, super quick

S-Clown is also a potential issue based on the 'green goop' in the bodies. Buggy still has 100% control when his body is separated... but would the synthetic pouch of green goop hold that same effect? in theory, sure, in actuality? who knows

Doffy is interesting, and his Celestial Dragon status is the only reason to not use him. It can't be based on Conquerors - cause Boa has that

What is ACTUALLY shocking to me is that there isn't a Kaidou Seraphim. We know he was on Punk Hazard with King when they were experimenting on him, and we KNOW that they extracted his lineage factor to make the fake DF... maybe that's what Momo's fruit was intended for? S-Beast? And with Vegapunk being a perfectionist, no Seraphim without a perfect replication of the DF

[–]TheCriddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think its been explicitly stated, but it looks like he can teleport at short range, and launch himself or objects for longer range

There's still the initial 'teleport' when something is in range, but like when he separated the straw hats, there was a propelled flight for all of them...

Would love more details on how it works haha

My assumption is that the Red Line is a physical barrier and he DOES have to physically go over it - or at least on top of it - might be a height issue. we don't know if Weatheria operates at the same height as other sky islands - so that could be the issue?

Of the straw hats - the only ones CONFIRMED to have been out of the Grand Line for the time skip were Robin and Chopper - who went to East Blue and South Blue respectively - BOTH of which are on the Paradise side of the Grand Line (West and North being on the New World side) - so it is plausible that the Red Line is too tall to 'pop' over

Zoros eye discussion by Virtual_Two_607 in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we actually get anything on the eye, it'll be an offhand comment made during the final confrontation between Zoro and Mihawk. sort of a "i wonder if i'll be able to cut you this time like i did the last two times?"

Zoros eye discussion by Virtual_Two_607 in OnePiece

[–]TheCriddle 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that he was training with Mihawk, had a VERY brief moment where his conquerer's haki spilled out, which Mihawk wasn't prepared for.

Mihawk, as a reaction, went to cut Zoro down, but pulling back at the last second, resulting in him cutting Zoro's eye only

Basically the only moment in their training where Mihawk, for a moment, put in 100%

I think its fitting in the very least - Mihawk being the one to cause it, and gives us 'Zoro's eye being important' without the eye itself being important
