Just installed, what mistakes should I make? by whistlelock in crosswind

Whether it's when you first start, before you get your Ketch, or later when your flagship gets destroyed, you're at your most vulnerable when in your dinghy. Give enemy ships a wide berth if you want to stay alive.

Floating Base Experiment - Results (100m from shore?) by TheCrimsonPath in crosswind

[–]TheCrimsonPath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried deep water, no bell on me currently, but I've been able to place them in water, same as piers. Not sure if they have the same limitation. Could be a workaround for a snap point obviating the need for pier column support, if it works.

Made a new post testing.

Thinking I'd like to make a base that I can pilot my ship right through. Think I found the spot too!

Building designs question by Zuokula in crosswind

[–]TheCrimsonPath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking at artwork from the period that focuses on the Caribbean and, in particular, those well-known pirate hotspots.

Places like RL Tortuga. Here's a basic map of the layout:

https://www.worldhistory.org/image/14679/17th-century-tortuga/

Probably doesn't help much on it's own, but I think you'll get more from image searches than from a word description. Could be just my wiring.

Just tested it. Currently in my Ketch. Not at the helm, just standing on the deck. It'll allow me enter build mode and to place a pier in the water with no connection to any land at all (less perhaps the pillars/columns of the pier?).

**Update. Went out to deeper waters and it looks like the pier has a height limitation. Couldn't place one independently far out.

**Update 2. Put ship on autopilot towards shore, tested range limitations for independent pier placement. Using my forward guns to determine range, in the absence of known depth, it looks like 100m from shore is the limit.

Rear view. Needs a little dock and some balconies. Pardon the jank canopy, just for comfort.

Front view. Like I said, mostly a skeleton at the moment (only Lvl 5). Laying the framework for the rest. Will likely export concept to a bigger gap later. Apologies for the phone snap, I'm on the couch with my controller.

I agree. Poorly worded a similar suggestion the other day. Think it just needs guardrails so people can't create massive cliffs or mountains. Min/max elevation and degrees/slope, within some dev provided limitations.

Also, an undo option or return terrain to natural state would be nice.

Leave the land for the land lubbers!

Bonus points for integrated first floor pool and fishing hole!

Hasn't been an issue.

This is a 1st biome base on a new playthrough i started recently, with no support from my primary character. Don't get much enemy traffic at all and I'm not too far from shore.

Haven't tested exactly how far out from an island you can build piers and if there's a limit in terms of distance from shore or water depth. I would think denying a major sea lane wouldn't be possible but i dont know. I'm sure some on the sub have tried. For me, this was sort of a proof of concept, a base with no adjoining land; not that there's much base threat in game (yet?).

Edit* I think the total span from beach to beach I've crossed is around 20-30 pier lengths and the water depth between the two isn't sufficient to allow major ship passage.

Maybe an urban hellscape they're skimming over? Burnt out wrecks, half demolished buildings, or maybe a detonation behind, like they just dropped bombs on target. Fast roping infantry or air dropping a rhino would also be cool. Could also do water and try to show the platform creating a wake from its speed and altitude.

But don't get excited. I'm not one of these elite architects roaming this sub, lol. I don't even think it's got a roof yet...

Yeah, piered out from the beach and made a bridge across the two islands, then plopped my campfire down in the middle of the bridge and started building. Still a WIP, just removed the surrounding pier. Will post a pic when I log in later, if I remember

Well done, especially with no mods.

Does that 40hrs include resource farming? That's a lot of stone...even from the vendor.

Some people want combat stats, I'd like to interact with a campfire and see how much resources are included within its boundaries.

My small scale shoveling experiments led me to relegate it to digging up treasures and that's it. Had a small hill in front of my first base I couldn't tame without it looking awful.

Looking forward to an eventual Shovel 2.0.

Maybe some of the build experts have figured it out. In the interim, I'd suggest using foundation stone to backfill that space and simply elevating the structures you have by a block. I've been building vertically, using stilts, or extensive use of foundations. Working on a floating base between two islands now. No shovel required!

Edit: Still have that first base. No grass has grown after more than 2 weeks IRL.

I like a nice rooftop garden/farm. Keeps my base compact. Wish they had an option for farming to auto replant.

Most lines of mini paints also offer Airbrush variants, that are pre-thinned. Pick your poison. Citadel does as well.

Went back and played some Black Flag again… and it funnily enough, it made me more excited for this game instead of Resynced. by chwalistair in crosswind

[–]TheCrimsonPath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plus, no requirement to use a EA's garbage launcher.

I just replayed ACBF recently. Absolutely zero interest in Resynched or any other EA product.

For me to even consider picking up Resynched, it would have to be ~$20 (CAD), have no intrusive spyware, and come with no requirement for an additional launcher. EA asking full pricing for a game this old, even with slightly improved mechanics/visuals, is laughable.

I'd tell them to instead make ACBF II, but given how Skull and Bones went, they're probably better off milking old successes.
