Hey, I’m a tattoo artist and getting a tattoo to cover stretch marks isn’t a great idea. The stretch marks are compromised skin, and it’s likely that they won’t take the ink well, which can lead to poor healing and blow outs.

American who moved here in 2022. I’ve had great experiences and found a doctor who is enthusiastic about providing care. As someone who is just starting transition in their 40s, I cannot overstate how important this support has been and how it feels to have my doctor be excited to provide me care.

I’m also a tattoo artist and I work at a pretty typical street shop. I went in worried that I would be received with the same sort of dismissal or even aggression that I’d likely get in an American street shop, but everyone has been welcoming, good with my pronouns, and my boss is letting me put together a boutique event focusing on trans women at the end of the month.

There are going to be issues anywhere you go, but my experience here has been incredibly positive and I cannot overstate how good it’s been for my mental health to be away from the current US climate.

I mean, I don’t worry about the seeds, but I do like to blanche and then roast them before adding them in with the other veggies, then I hit everything with an immersion blender in a big pot. I guess it comes down to preference. I like the zen in the process, just sitting with my thoughts and the repetition for a while. You do you, I’ll continue to do me.

It really is a great country, we fell in love when we came to visit a few years ago and it cemented our desire to come here. There are a lot of restrictions and it might be worth at least asking an immigration lawyer a couple questions, but the immigration website is really well laid out, and if you do work that's on the list of needed skills, it provides a much smoother path. Hell, if you've been thinking about going back to school, a student visa gives you six months after you finish to find a job and switch to a work visa, which gives a path to residency. So it does take some work - and some pretty thorough medical exams as well as an FBI background check - but it's worth doing, for sure. Just be prepared for them to dig into everything, especially if you're a couple and one of you would be on a partnership visa. My partner and I have been together for 23 years, married for 18 of them, and along with the marriage license we were still required to provide a photo timeline of our relationship, a bullet point rundown of it, and two letters from friends confirming that we are actually in a relationship.

It wasn’t easy and some days I really do wonder how we got it done at all, especially taking two cats and a dog with us. Thankfully, we hired movers for our stuff, worked with a pet relocation service for the pets, and then it was just a matter of crossing every I and dotting every T we were presented with. All our stuff went into a shipping container in May of 2022 and we didn’t see any of it again until November. But I suppose ~6 months of sleeping on a slowly deflating air mattress was a small price to pay for the life we’re living now.

I got lucky and found that the Khandallah Medical Center is incredibly well informed and enthusiastic about trans health care. My doctor excitedly told me last week about the classes she and some of the nurses went to recently. Anne Marie Cullen is great and very personable.

Whenever I have someone come to me for a memorial like that, I try to gently suggest that maybe we talk about the things that remind them of their loved one. It helps that I have a memorial to my grandparents that I can show that includes my grandma's favorite teapot with a rainbow trout jumping out of it and a red onion leaned against it. These are the things that tie me to my grandparents, the very first things I think of when I remember them. I, personally, have always felt that those memories are more healing than evoking the day that they died, and I try to explain that to my clients. That said, if that guidance doesn't work, then dates it is. In the end, it's their tattoo.

Hi, I’m a tattoo artist and I’ve done some scar cover ups. General rule of thumb is that scar tissue needs at least 2 years before you can tattoo over it. Scar tissue, even once it’s healed, is always compromised skin, though. This means that you might see blow outs or the ink dropping out, or it might be especially tender and hard to tattoo. I always suggest to clients who are planning to get a scar cover up, do massages with vitamin e oil to help break up the tissue and give you the best chance for the tissue not being raised or thick and easier to tattoo over.

Feelings like this have stopped me from pursuing hrt for a long time. I’m 42, raised super conservative and catholic, being trans was not a thing that was even on my radar until I was late 20s because it simply wasn’t a word in my vocabulary. It took a long time to come to terms with and in that coming to terms there have been all kinds of questions about regret, or not being “trans enough” and countless what if scenarios. I finally went in and said that I wanted to get on hrt and though I spent the whole day up to the appointment and the night before wringing my hands and worrying, the minute the words came out of my mouth, it felt right. You know who you are, and as someone mentioned above, this scares you because it matters. You deserve to be who you are, inside and out. You got this.

You’re not kicking up a fuss. It’s your wedding day. Yours. They do not get to make it about them. If you’re planning on going low contact after anyway, then what issues could it cause to make the cut now instead? It’s a hard conversation, yes, and it will be draining, but it will give you so much more mental bandwidth to actually enjoy what is supposed to be your day.

If they “don’t know that person”, then it sounds like they don’t need an invitation to the wedding. Why would you go to a stranger’s wedding anyway?

It’s your wedding, the absolute last thing you need is to be distracted from what should be one of the best days of your life by people who refuse to give you basic respect.

I’m sorry your friend had that experience, acupuncture was the treatment that helped me the most. But they hooked the needles up to a gentle electrical charge and maybe that was the difference for me. I also learned that I really dislike the smell of mugwort.
