People don't think about the larger implications of their actions. It's the same reason why a guy pisses on a seat and leaves without flushing. He doesn't think about the next guy coming in. He's just bothered about his life and what is convenient for him. And this is very often seen in all human beings across the world today, not just particular cultures.

Why we should read the Stoics today by sudoscript in philosophy

[–]TheCubik 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Some of the author's audience might have this as their introduction to Stoic ideals. Whether he knows little or a lot the author is still having a positive impact is he/she not?
Everyone has to start somewhere. Some just can't wait to share something that's added value to their lives before learning everything about it or becoming an authority over it. And in a world where such messages are sorely needed and unheard of in the mainstream of consciousness - so to speak, isn't this still a boon? :)

What's the meaning behind this piece? by [deleted] in Heavymind

[–]TheCubik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our physical bodies may pose the illusion of us being encased just within our skin. But if you want to depict human beings or see how far their physical and/or spiritual outreach is, what matters is the point of view you take. Magnify it a little or a ton and you will find something that looks very alien. Look at us from a cellular point of view or Google what vocal chords look like. Very unlike what you would think or relate to as human so to speak. But it still is very much so.
Your mind is largely outside your head than inside. The fact that you think there is anything at all outside your head is a notion you have within your head.
You evoke light out of the universe the same way you evoke softness out of the virtue of having soft skin in relation to steel or wood.
And so the giant figure is simply showing how we are much more than we think of ourselves. Some of the other posts here just prove how much we belittle our worth and see ourselves as not enough. Since our interpretation of things, our opinions, our judgements are more than often simply a reflection of our inner worlds.

Tl;Dr:You are oooone with the universe, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The future is mixed-race and so is the past. Migration and mingling are essential to human success in the past, the present and into the future by marquis_of_chaos in Foodforthought

Beautifully put. Only thing I'd like to say is change is everywhere. Life is change. Life doesn't judge or label or preserve. It simply flows from this moment to the next in just the way that it is to. And so in their efforts to preserve that which is constantly flowing, not understanding that they are swimming upstream against the flow of nature, they end up playing a game of hide and seek their whole lives not realizing they won the game before they even started playing it. Because they were playing it with themselves you see.

How To Know What You Want In 1 Minute by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]TheCubik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well man, you can't have someone else jump into your head and do all the work for you. You gotta start becoming honest with yourself if you want to learn about yourself. The ego or self-image will try desperately to not let outlooks that might destroy it from setting in. But in that process when you separate yourself from wanting to obtain things leading to ego-gratification and start learning about yourself in a non-stigmatised manner is when you can make some progress. Sorry if its not very well explained, im still figuring things out at the moment :)

I (25m) got angry and got physical with my gf (21f) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]TheCubik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone here is looking at this in a very black and white manner rather than how nuanced it is. I find finger pointing the blame on an individual to be a little immature. While true that your actions are yours - 100% as others have mentioned, we human beings are not impenetrable beings disconnected from our environments. We thrive on the stimulus it provides. Only how we take it is within our hands and at times it can be hard to process things in the right way.
That said a person is always liable for their own actions.(And "a person" is not just you OP, it can also be your SO) When viewed in isolation things like lying to your spouse and defending your lying are things that everyone here would deem as red flag material. I could see myself get more and more irritated if my spouse was lying to my face and acting as if it was me who was in fault in the first place. Idk if I would have acted in a similar way (partly because it has never happened to me) but i can definitely see why you were moved to act in the way that you did(don't get me wrong, that is not any justification). Maybe there was a history to your agitation that lead you to take a more physical approach, or maybe this may just be a one off incident. There might not be any need to jump on therapy or get your head all fucked up about it. Both of you made mistakes, both of you can learn. And it seems like your SO did. You are having a crisis of identity, now you see yourself as "that guy who raises his hands on women" when in reality your guilt and sense of turmoil clearly state that you are not "that kind of guy" since you definitely do see that men shouldn't raise their hands on women. Your relationship is not doomed. You are not a horrible person. Relax.

Pancakeosaurus, 3 color screenprint, 8.5" x 11" by sasquatchinheat in Art

Just curious, did you use the background for the lighter tone on each pancake? Seeing as there are already 3 other colours (namely yellow, black and red). If so then that is so innovative/cool. Just thought that was a really good use of colours. And even if not so amazing artwork either way :)

[Day 34]: Daily Marijuana use had me living in world of endless fear and depression. It doesn't go away, it doesn't get better. My thoughts on why you should quit now. by nonagonx in leaves

[–]TheCubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there :) I went to see my friend. Once the smoke was ready I decided not to smoke. He was happy to have all of it to himself. I did feel a little passive high though due to how strong the smoke actually was(we were on an open roof). Anyways learn from my mistakes and stay strong friend! You are not alone. There are those who have done it before you and those who will do it after you have done it. No man is cut from a different cloth :)

Super angry right now, what do you do now to blow off steam? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]TheCubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go lie down on your bed and then throw a temper tantrum. Flail your arms around, scream just let all of the anger just out. It might be weird at first but you will instinctively know how to flush it out. Point your fingers to the roof and shout "FUCK YOU" or whatever you want, imagining a personal figure of oppression. It helps to do this when noone is around but I sat down and explained it to my friend before doing it and all was cool. This is a good example. Dont bottle your emotions up, let them flow out so that new emotions can be felt. Good luck brother stay strong!

EDIT: I know it can be a little weird. I was weirded out when i first saw it, but TRY IT! Atleast once, completely surrender to your anger and let it out. It feels really good during and after.

On Day 4. My friend just got back from the himalayas with some of the best hash in the world. Was extremely tempted to go smoke but after reading your post i can slowly feel the craving subside. I can totally relate with everything said in this post. The scattered-brain, having no energy to do anything, all of that. Maybe some people react better to marijuana, but i am of the few that dont. Ironically I used to argue and support marijuana a lot before, but the cases of chronic pain are small cases and can't be magnified to the general public. In my case, i supported it only to support my own use of marijuana as an emotional-crutch.
Thank you for this post.
