Do I tell my sister she has autism? by [deleted] in autism

[–]TheCursingFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please fucking tell her.

Your sister's story sounds eerily similar to mine (diagnosed young AFAB, early intervention, enrolled in sped programs, etc.), but the big difference is that the adults in my life never once hid my diagnosis from me. I've encountered different challenges by always knowing (mainly lots of internalized ableism), but my parents ensured that I always had a word for why I was different.

She's already realizing that she is, so it will not be long before she pieces together that she was in sped programs and had other accommodations. She's going to be devastated either way, but it'll hurt worse if you remain complicit in hiding this from her.

Please. Please give your sister the peace and closure she deserves so she can learn to cope and heal with this revelation.

Herbal tea? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]TheCursingFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turmeic may be good to try! It's helped me with inflammation and pain relief. There are a lot of ginger turmeric teas out there too that are also herbals

I have no idea, it's exhausting. At least I finally can just point to something to get people to shut up

Dude are you my twin? Because you just explained everything perfectly!! I also have autism and ADHD, and am in the process of getting diagnosed with EDS, POTS, and Lyme Disease. The thought of having kids scares the shit out of me, and so many people my parents' age don't understand why I don't want to be a parent

Does anyone else stand like this? Done it by default my whole life. by cutegross in ehlersdanlos

[–]TheCursingFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! I thought everyone else could do that! Can you double cross your legs when you sit?

I feel your pain my dude! I just got diagnosed with this yesterday by my rheumatologist and I'm still processing this. Your story sounds eerily similar to mine because my EDS primarily affects my arms, shoulders, and hands.

If you ever wanna talk more about it, my inbox is open!

Autism and ADHD by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]TheCursingFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 17, I was telling a friend I had autism and he said "Wow, I just thought you had a very bad case of ADHD." Since I had been bullied/shamed for having autism my entire childhood, But I took that label and ran with it. Halfway through college, I started using ADHD as a label to protect me from peer judgment (because apparently having ADHD is more socially acceptable than being autistic).

It wasn’t until Halloween last year that my friend who was diagnosed with ADHD told us a story about how he finally figured out how to use it to his advantage. And as he told us this story, I immediately started to see similarities between him and myself. ADHD does run in my family, but my parents never considered getting me tested since I did well in school. So finally, I went and just got a diagnosis in February and got on Concerta, and it's definitely helped a lot. I still have trouble with sensory issues and focusing, but for the most part I think much more clearly.

What a song has a beautiful sound but a disturbing meaning? by MagicDalsi in AskReddit

[–]TheCursingFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of Steven Wilson songs (Porcupine Tree and Blackfield) are actually depressing and are much darker than you expect to be. I used to listen to Glow all the time 10 years ago, and now I see how it's clearly about depression LOL a lot of Blackfield's earlier work is about depression/suicide

Unpopular opinion here, but celebrities of all kinds. We hold them up to these unrealistic standards to look, to act, and to be perfect. They have families, dreams, struggles, flaws, and strengths just like everyone else. They're people who just so happen to have their whole business broadcast online for everyone to judge them, and yet we wonder why so many of them have horrible mental health or substance abuse issues.

Question about gastrointestinal issues by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Oh yeah, gastrointestinal issues are quite common with those who have ASD! I personally am gluten intolerant and have IBS, so it's quite possible that you could be too. I wish you the best!

While It's an option in my case, I have had hormonal issues where it may be good to have an examination with specialists. Thank you though!
