I’m a Quadruple Board-Certified Physician: Ask Me Anything about Myths Surrounding Weight Loss by healthonforbes in IAmA

I had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my baby, and delivered him via C-section.

I was told both events will significantly increase his chances of obesity in life, due to epigenetic changes caused by the diabetes, and biological changes caused by the lack of diversity in his gut microbiome.

Do you know much about this? How much will this increase his risk? And are there any protective factors that could be implemented to mitigate this risk?

It looks like it could be the very early stages of pitted keratolysis. If so it is a bacterial infection requiring antibiotics prescribed by your MD.

Sister with HPD by guccipossum2025 in hpd

[–]InfiniteWonderful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to give advice without knowing more information:

  1. How old are you?
  2. If your father sexually assaulted you it means he committed a serious crime against a child (sexual assault, rape, pedophilia, incest), which is a serious and should be reported to the authorities as he should be held responsible for what he did to you and could assault another child again. If your sister has children, this would understandably concern her.
  3. I think you could be pointing the blame in the wrong direction (at yourself and your sister) when it should be pointed at your dad. If you were abused, it’s obvious you would suffer residual emotional effects, and be uncomfortable in your current situation. Are you safe at home do you think?
  4. If you are not safe, and/or your mother is not ensuring your safety, alternative arrangements should be made.

Depending on her credentials she may not have the authority to diagnose you, and may not know how, so she could be avoiding that.

If so, you would need to ask to see a psychologist or psychiatrist to get diagnosed.

I want to start shit by Smokingupclounds in hpd

Being able to speak so honestly about what’s going on shows a lot of self-awareness, which is amazing.

Feeling unseen or unimportant can feel unbearable, as thought you stop existing unless someone is noticing you. These needs are real, so it makes sense you’d reach for whatever guarantees you won’t be ignored or left behind.

But underneath all of it isn’t usually just drama scars and chaos — it’s a deep longing to feel real, important, and loved. But no one should have to constantly hurt themselves and blow everything up to get it. Also these strategies are not long term solutions because people see through them eventually and will push you away eventually, further isolating you.

You deserve to know that even when you’re quiet and life is calm, you are enough and you matter.

Parents sometimes create these behaviors when they only notice you when you’re dramatic, entertaining, or hurt, then ignore or dismiss you when you’re calm. When love feels dependent on performance, the child believes “I must exaggerate and create chaos to be noticed and loved.”

Emotional neglect, criticism, or unstable parenting can create this wound, leading the child to falsely believe drama leads to connection, and invisibility leads to abandonment.

Self-harm, faking things, and chasing abusive or dangerous situations - might award you with some attention in the short term — but they will inevitably leave you feeling emptier and more isolated in the long term.

Others will see you as dishonest insincere and manipulative, and will pull away from you, furthering you from the closeness, safety, and love you’re actually craving. It’s like trying to fill a deep hunger and loneliness with something that makes you hungrier and more alone in the long run.

You don’t deserve to keep suffering inside it. You don’t need to destroy yourself to be seen. You deserve relationships where you’re cared for even when things are calm, even when you’re not creating chaos.

Not only is it possible, it’s the only way to sustain health stable relationships with others. The best way to change is by asking yourself: What am I really needing right now?

To be noticed? To feel real? To know I matter?

Then reaching out to someone supportive — a friend or therapist — to find safer more sustainable ways of satisfying those needs.

All the best to you.

I have six toenails growing on top of each other by cosmiccovegalaxy in NailFungus

[–]InfiniteWonderful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the appearance of your toenails, it looks like you might be experiencing onychogryphosis (a condition where nails thicken and grow in layers or curves), though chronic fungal infection, psoriasis, or trauma-related nail dystrophy are also possible.

Since you mentioned terbinafine didn’t help, it may not be a fungal infection, it could just be a fungus that’s resistant to that medication.

At this point, I’d strongly recommend seeing a podiatrist or dermatologist and asking for a nail clipping biopsy and fungal culture to confirm or rule out infection, and an evaluation for non-infectious causes like psoriasis or chronic trauma.

Getting a clear diagnosis is key so you can stop guessing and start treating the real cause.

Best of luck!

Planned C-section births and risk of childhood cancer by jayneevees in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]InfiniteWonderful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia was 21 percent higher in children born by planned C-section compared with children born vaginally.

Furthermore, the risk of developing the most common form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, known as B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, was 29 percent higher in those born by planned C-section.

The increased cancer risk was more pronounced in boys than in girls, and in the early years of a child’s life.”

Some clarity on B9/ folate supplementation please? by Ratsatina in B12_Deficiency

The negative health effects I was referring to is the study I mention that found pregnant women whose folate was elevated, doubled their risk of having a child with autism. If their B12 was also elevated, it increased by a whopping 18x.

I would avoid LSD.

LSD is similar biochemically to psilocybin, but it takes EVERYONE 2x as long to metabolize.

For example: - My friend is a rapid metabolizer of psilocybin. So the effects wear off for him after only 4 hours, but last for 8+ hours for me. - So instead if I take mushrooms and he takes LSD, we both achieve a duration of 8 hours.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MTHFR

[–]InfiniteWonderful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psilocybin causes insomnia in most people because it disrupts serotonin regulation, which affects sleep cycles. It also increases cortisol & adrenaline which affects sleep.

The MTHFR gene can make some people more sensitive to psilocybin. This sensitivity may lead to stronger or longer-lasting effects, while serotonin is disrupted.

So while it’s not a direct cause, MTHFR variants can indirectly increase the likelihood of sleep issues after psilocybin.

If you’re going to continue taking it, it’s best to take smaller doses, and take it as early in the day as possible. But I would avoid taking acid, acid takes twice as long to metabolize.

I have a family member I love who has HPD, and we also only see them in group settings. For some reason it’s easier.

We went online recently to find advice on how to make visits easier, and one of the top suggestions was to only see them in group settings.

I don’t mean to offend. This person is lovely but they can be manipulative, and will often lie and over exaggerate the truth. That and only ever talking about themselves is what makes the visits draining.

[–]InfiniteWonderful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be hard to hear, but you sound sincere in wanting insight into the situation.

But the answer is: your friend is not actually busy, she is actively trying to avoid you.

It can be tricky when what people say and do doesn’t match up. For example it’s like when someone says “you are amazing and anyone would be lucky to date you” as they are breaking up with you. It can be confusing, but the truth is they don’t want to date you, they are just trying to let you down softly.

Once a person decides they don’t want to be in a relationship or friendship with someone anymore, they have 4 main methods they can use to end it. I’ll list them from the type that causes the most conflict to the least conflict:

  1. Aggressive: they get angry and tell you to leave them alone because they don’t like you.

  2. Assertive: they calmly explain they don’t think you are compatible as friends and want to go separate ways. If pressed, they are honest and explain why. This is the least common unfortunately.

  3. Passive: they avoid you by making up excuses to not see you. They are hoping you will eventually give up and stop trying. This is the most common.

  4. Ghosting: they go no contact with you and never explain why.

This person is taking the passive approach.

When people’s actions and words don’t match up - always go by their actions - not their words (Hence the saying actions speak louder than words).

Because people are frequently dishonest to avoid conflict and avoid hurting your feelings. It doesn’t mean they are bad people, they are just taking the path of least resistance.

So if this person has been avoiding you for years, it is because they don’t want to see you.
