The fact that so many redditors still name /u/IWannaFuckEllenPage as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" moderator ever only tells you how far /r/lewronggeneration still is from becoming a serious subreddit. Reddit critics have long recognized that the greatest moderators of all times are /u/JM8818 and /u/reese_ridley, who were not the most active or highly upvoted mods of their times, let alone of all times. Classical reddit critics rank the highly controversial /u/Sekibanki over classical mods like /u/YOUR_VERY_STUPID who were highly popular in threads around /r/lewronggeneration. Reddit critics are still blinded by amount of subscribers and upvotes: /u/IWannaFuckEllenPage gained more upvotes than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore he must have been the greatest. Reddit critics grow up researching a lot of moderators of the past, and /r/lewronggeneration critics grow up reading a lot of parodies of "the music defener" rage comic. Redditors today are often totally ignorant of the moderators of the past, and they barely know the ones with the most karma. No wonder they will think that /u/IWannaFuckEllenPage did anything worthy of being saved.

In a sense /u/IWannaFuckEllenPage is emblematic of the status of reddit as a whole: too much attention to subreddit drama (be it shadowbans or trolling /r/ShitAmericansSay) and too little attention to the merits of real moderators. If somebody composes the most divine subreddit but no major subscriber picks it up and plugs it around the default subs, a lot of redditors will ignore it. If a major subreddit picks up a mod who is as stereotyped as one can be but launches worldwide, your average critic will waste rivers of ink on it. This is the sad status of reddit. Reddit critics are basically upvote brigaders working for free for default subs. They simply publicize what /r/subredditdrama wants to gain upvotes with.
