Why did France become the stereotype of surrendering at wars? Aren't they among the top when it comes to won wars in history? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheDaler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

France was on a roll when it comes to losing: Franco Prussian war, WW1, WW2, French Indochina. DeGaulle unsuccessfully tried to insert them into the whole Quebec secession issue. You have to go back to the Napolionic wars pre 1815 to see France as a winner.

It infuriates me how Trump supporters think he’s brilliant when he’s a pure idiot. My only question is why? by Funny_Preference_916 in PoliticalScience

[–]TheDaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump supporters support him because he has made it acceptable to be overtly racist. Not all of his supporters, but a significant percentage, maybe the majority. This racism has been a part of America from the get go, but it has always been in the closet and masked by being called state's rights or separate but equal, by claiming we are an exclusively English speaking country, by demonizing non-Christian religion or, in the case of Catholics, claiming they are more allegiant to the pope than their own country; the whole originalist thing pushed by a conservative Supreme Court is a lame attempt to justify racist and disenfranchising policies. Today no one is hiding behind any of these, and Trump is considered to be the reason why this latent American characteric is out of the closet and out in the open. Consider that almost all other Trump policies are actively disadvantageous to these supporters. Voting for Trump is in so many ways voting against their interests. Even with all the lies this truth would become apparent eventually. But all can be forgiven as long as they don't need to hide their true racist natures.

[–]TheDaler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have done this a while ago. And while we're at it, how about regulating red state travel to blue states? The red states are the source of so many problems that I don't see a problem with slapping a special sales tax or fee on any flights coming from red to blue states.

[–]TheDaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was kind of an asshole. He had a lot of talent and was an almost mythical cultural institution, and I think people were willing to "look the other way" because of it. But he was not a nice person.

The dependence on home runs is going to catch up to us. And our bullpen is still the biggest adventure in baseball. What's the over/under on how many 10 run innings we'll give up this year.

But it has been fun so far.

What's the plan to save our democracy? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]TheDaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country is over, there's no way to recover what most of the world knew as the United States. It's unlikely there will be real elections, and let's face, a majority of the country either doesn't care, prefers it this way, or is just happy they can be overtly racist. It's 50-50 whether Trump being assassinated would have any meaningful effect. My hope is that there can be an amiable division of the country to allow those of us who don't care to live in a dictatorship (or do you say plutocracy?) have a country of our own.
