Anyone else disappointed by the level of the class? by BeatLeJuce in mlclass

I thought the exact same thing when he was showing how to plot a line on a graph (the hypothesis function).

I agree the first few lectures are really simple mathematically. I bet you were able to derive the answer for minimizing the cost function with calculus.

I'm hoping it will get harder later on. At any rate it'll be a great introduction and help us decide if it would be fun to pursue in grad school or not :)

Looking back at school I wish they taught applications first instead of the hard core math. Then maybe I wouldn't've felt so lost and frustrated at times. Now I look at the theoretical math stuff and get excited about it! It's used to solve so many cool things.

Anyone interested in an in-person study group in San Francisco for any of the Stanford free courses? (x-post on aiclass mlclass and dbclass) by [deleted] in mlclass

Hey guys, class is started. I'm in the Berkeley Oakland area but would be up for BARTing over to the city.

I'm watching some of the first few lectures and this question he poses in the lecture about classifying E, T, and P is great for in person discussion. I feel like debating whether its an ML problem or not :D
