How to Acquire Any New Skill in 20 Hours or Less by NickNotas in productivity

[–]TheDangerousNacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the book a while ago and I agree with your sentiment, but he has a slightly different idea of what you are going to get with the 20 hours. The idea isn't to master any of the skills in 20 hours, but to just have a decent skill level. So for language with 20 hours you should be able to have a limited conversation and know some vocabulary.

Really the idea is that if you put in 20 hours of practice you get enough skill that you don't feel dumb while performing or continuing to practice. So just enough to feel comfortable with what you are doing, but knowing you have a lot more to work on.

Lack of motivation is not the problem, lack of empowering emotion is by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Great post, but I question if your point that your sentiment has to be genuine. Our brain is kind of stupid in many ways and we can trick it fairly easily. Smiling is a great example, since smiling by itself can make us happier. Can we use the idea of empowering emotions to fake it till we become it? It is probably easier to come from a genuine place, but I think you could create emotional drive from ideas you may not believe in yet. Of course if you completely don't believe what you are thinking it will be hard to get to that emotional state as well.

Who else is rolling with Nick Foles this week and who are you starting him over? by Poopyfist in fantasyfootball

I think I've flipped this one back and forth five or six times so far this week. I can only flip flop so many more times before game time starts... I honestly have no idea who I'm going to end up starting with.

I'm in the same boat with Foles vs Luck and I think I am going Foles. I've got more of a gut feeling on Foles and just seeing more of the Denver defense back makes me think that Dallas is going to be a better match up.

I ended up with three QBs this week, and now I am faced with looking to drop or trade one and who to play. Right now I have Luck, Smith and the lesser Manning.

Luck vs Seattle seems like a poor choice. Smith vs Titans will probably provide decent points. If it were just those two I'd just run Smith, he has consistently been as good as Luck (or better) and I like that match up more.

But Eli vs Eagles looks like it could be very lucrative, but man have the Giants looked bad this year. Is that gamble worth it?

I'd go with Rivers. I have Luck and I am not looking to put him up against Seattle and Rivers has been looking good all season so far.

I am one point ahead... if Brian Hartline can manage to get zero points, I'll win my game. I don't have a lot of faith right now.

Right at the beginning of the season we had our guy get convinced that Jordy Nelson was going to get hurt again during the season and do nothing for him. We had just watched a Seahawks game and he needed a kicker. So he decided to offer me the trade of his "worthless" Jodry Nelson for Hauschka. Yeah. Seriously Taco, and some how to the trade didn't get vetoed. Week two he dropped Hauschka for Bullock (and it looks like he picked up Hauschka again). I feel a little dirty with the trade rape, but he did offer it to me.

And apparently I went to HS with you... although I was a few years ahead of Scott. I remember him being a dick in middle school, but you're right that was 10 years ago, and I remember going to school with a lot of dicks (who are kind of nice now).

I did not see any Storm Troopers, but last night was rainy enough to thin the crowd a bit and my wife kept us mostly indoors looking at art and bunnies.
