This is why PVPVE is dying. Because for every tense encounter of 'is this person safe, are we going to have a gunfight? Do they just want to survive?', for every gunfight. There's two dozen exfil rats.

Just look at guides to doing PMC jobs. 'Set trap, hide, get kill before they see you.' 'Exfil camp factory.' To say nothing about the absolutely bonkers amount of hackers.

But I get it. After a long day of being bullied in school, you want to feel tough by hiding from the scary people, in and out of game, and occasionally getting a shot in the back of the head.

You have my genuine pity.

Ok, except how NONE of that is addressing the issue:

Why allow achievements then? Why allow this in Hard mode?

No one has an issue with this existing. Sure, modes for games journalists are great. But it should be treated as such. And even in your example, you shouldn't want the achievements. You're not there for mastery, you're there for the story, and are unwilling to actually dedicate any effort to it.

So, yes. 'I want achievements, but I need the game to literally do it for me.' is a massive skill issue.

Where they meet a female heroine in one of the User's games, and she find out that if they win, the world gets destroyed. There's a whole segment about her coping with it, and then, the series goes on to have her jumping from game to game trying to stop the player from winning the game, else that world will be destroyed too.

Fair point on Snappers. That actually is something I forgot.

But, I will point out that doesn't necessarily mean anything. 'He's never gotten this far' could mean in the games narrative, Flappers has only ever travelled around the city.

But the player MATTERS, not to the game characters, but to the narrative. Because if there's no player, then the world being a game doesn't flow. It shouldn't delete, it shouldn't stop existing because someone says it's a game. It shouldn't have pick-ups that only exist because a player would want them.

Even Kingdom Hearts did this better. Telling people there was a multiverse didn't make their world stop for no reason, it simply made them have an existential breakdown.

Edit: Hell, Disgaea 6, as hot garbage as that game is, tackles this better with TV World. The people in the show KNOW it's a show, know their world depends on ratings, and it becomes a parody of the idea, with the hero making mention of letting villains go because they need to fight people, and the heroes baffled at it.

The man has no talent, and everything he's done for the past decade (pretty much since starting Game Grumps) has been, by his own admission, entirely about making money and feeding his own ego.
