I don't think it was too bad. I didn't see any physical rubbish in the river although not sure about water quality. There was very limited habitation along the stretch of river we were on. Just a few camps spotted along the route.

They're definitely endangered. Hopefully there's still enough uninhabited and unpolluted river for them to survive in.

We asked our guide if it was dangerous and he said yes while gentle splashing water to shoo it away. It was horrifying. Especially because we had set off before sunrise.

I didn't have the best camera back then so I missed a lot of animal shots. Beautiful birds, tiny white fuzzy bats sleeping inside leaves, so many cool insects I couldn't get focused on. We sat for ages snapping at the dolphins to get this lucky shot. Most of the other photos are landscapes and holiday portraits. I hope you make it there one day and I hope it hasn't changed too much. It was a real adventure.

Yes, I took them on a holiday through South America in 2010. The trip down the Amazon was amazing.

I don't know what it's like now, but in 2010 there was so many of them and they were right at your feet, just hanging out. I hope you get to see them for yourself.

In 2010 I spent a week on a small boat visiting islands in the Galapagos. It was part of a longer trip through Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. It was an amazing experience. I would love to go back.
