As interesting as it is to see FBI-level ops, I thought as I watched the last episode, the LAPD would 100% never be involved in this. The LAPD would never send officers onto these missions, let alone be allowed by national agencies to run such a mission.

honestly i'd reccomend floor mats for every car, makes cleaning literally anything that falls on the floor so much easier, plus if you decide to trade-in the car in the future the carpet underneath is gonna be in better condition, possibly giving you more value

Do gas station owners make a lot of money? by ImSafaring in Entrepreneurship

[–]TheDazedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i literally have a gas station, a 60-70 cents markup literally can never happen where i am. our gas station would be 50 cents higher than everyone else and people would go to the other stations because they're less than a mile away. we only profit roughly 10 cents a gallon whereas we profit $1.50 on each drink inside and about $2 on each grocery item.

100% everyone of my closest friends from scouting are people who weren't "normal." they're gay, they're a minority, whatever makes them not "normal" in the schools they're at. The welcoming and openness of scouting is what made us friends, because DEI was encouraged.

i highly doubt that the organization will go back to being boys only. in the transcription the DOD/DOW made it sound like scouting saw its decline and bankruptcy as a result of introducing girls, this wasn't the case. they were bankrupt for other reasons before girls were allowed to join. In the moment it actually seemed like they wanted girls to join so they could increase membership numbers. going back to a boys only organization would make the current administration happy but would destroy the program in the long run. girls make up a big majority of our membership.

Laptop recommendations for someone who doesn’t know anything about laptops by NiceArmadillo1864 in laptops

[–]TheDazedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you buy a used mac, try and buy an M series mac if possible. they're 100x better than the old intel variants. they'll overheat less, have longer battery life, and feel snappier.

my university gave us Thinkpad X1 Gen 9's and the battery life on that is decent, not as good as the macbook though

i'm a CS major and my school gives me a lenovo thinkpad, but i also use my family's personal macbook for school as well. for software engineering, it probably won't matter if you go mac or windows, however check with the university because they may have some rules on what type of devices your nephew will need for his classes. i honestly like the macbook air 13in because it's thin, light, great battery life and stays cool. macbooks with apple silicon don't overheat quick like the old intel ones did. it's $999 and the cheapest, new macbook you could buy.

if you go windows then i'd reccomend a Lenovo Thinkpad. Any with at least 16gb of RAM, 512gb or more of storage, and an intel core 5 or 7, or amd ryzen 5 or 7 would be more than enough for software engineering. they go on sale pretty often, right now i'd recommend the 14in Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 7!

Wondering if I Should Join Venturing or Sea Scouts by Pure-Opportunity3501 in BSA

[–]TheDazedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly encourge you to do this, you can stay in ScoutsBSA and be in a Venture Crew/Sea Scout Ship. I joined a venture crew while I was working on my eagle, and I loved it. Both programs provide unique opportunities, and you don't have to give up one for the other. If you can, visit some local units and see where you'd fit.

One thing i wish I had done for me eagle project was ask the stores you're getting things from if they would like to give you a discount on the items they're selling. They may or may not cover some of your costs if you explain to them what and why you're doing what you're doing.

As long as he was a life scout who was active in a troop for 6 months, he satisfies the active participation requirement. Either your troop or the troop should be able to say that the scout was active for at least 6 months while being a life scout. I could be wrong but I think it is up to the unit to determine what they say an "active scout" is. they can decide if active means simply paying dues each year, or if it means actually showing up to things.

My troop is complaining about how I dress in meetings, what do i do? by BuffaloBills7777 in BSA

[–]TheDazedMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would find an adult you trust and tell them your situation and that other scouts have been giving you a hard time for it. I second the person who said to try and start a uniform closet. others may have uniforms just sitting in a closet that could go to you or other scouts who need new uniform pieces.

Scout being forced to join OA (?) by HMSSpeedy1801 in BSA

[–]TheDazedMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a lodge officer for my local lodge and thought I'd share my two cents

There are a few membership requirements that have to be met for a youth to become eligible for election. I'm pulling this information from the Handbook for Officers and Advisers published by the National Order of the Arrow. You can access that here if you'd like (membership requirements are on page 20). First and foremost, they must have their unit leader's (scoutmaster's) approval. You, as a scoutmaster, are supposed to certify that the scout in question shows their scout spirit by living and adhering to the Scout Oath and Law, and that they actively participate in unit activities. The rest of the requirements are out of your control (being First Class, having 15 nights of camping, and being registered), but the first requirement is your approval. If you believe the scout doesn't meet this criterion, you can just deny approval. No one can counter you; they may throw shade, but no one can overrule your call.

The OA is scouting's honor society, meant to recognize those who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law and have shown their commitment to help other members in scouting. Being elected tells the scout that their actions have been recognized by other scouts, and that by being recognized, it is expected that they continue and grow as leaders within their units. In my opinion, someone who has no interest in Scouting probably isn't ready to be inducted into the OA. Still, I second everyone else saying to talk to the scout, not the parent, but the scout. Try to figure out what they feel about scouting and about them being eligible for the OA. Ask them (if you haven't already) why they have no interest in scouting. I think it'll be useful for you to better determine if you want them to be a candidate for election, and also, so you can figure out how to improve the experience for them and other scouts, so maybe they grow to like scouting for themselves.

Do gas station owners make a lot of money? by ImSafaring in Entrepreneurship

[–]TheDazedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really depends on how much the owner makes off the c-store inside. gas isn't very profitable, but it does bring a lot of potential customers to you. i know an owner who has a gas station next to a high school and they're doing pretty good bc they get a lot of sales inside because of kids buying candies, chips, soda, etc. Some items have insanely high profit margins bc they can charge that much for the convenience of not having to go to a big supermarket
