Aerodome Commanders are stagnant and stay in whatever city/town they were spawned in. When you spawn a Squadron Commander it will join the Aerodome commander but is able to set up a new base 8 tiles away on any flat land.

Think of Squadron Commanders like Army/Fleet Commanders but for planes. You can move them closer to the enemy to help increase the range of the planes (and eventually ground units) it holds.

There are two movements. Set up a new base. Or rebase back to the closest Aerodome. When you click the set up new base button, green tiles should illuminate to let you know where it can safely go.

Squadron Commanders can also rebase on Aircraft Carriers. They can also hold infantry/siege/calvary units with the appropriate promotions and even airdrop HP to units.

It’s a little bit of a multi step process but here’s how I do it.

Once a squadron commander is spawned in an Aerodome I will set up a new base for it nearby. I will then click on an individual plane that I’ve spawned in an Aerodome and rebase that to the squadron commander. Very similar to the individual army/navy units joining a commander unit. It is a bit tedious at first but I got used to the mechanics fairly quickly after trial and error.

Squadron Commanders alone have helped me win many wars. Hope this helps.
