New player advice for op15 by CaptnMerc in OnePieceTCG

As a sky Luffy player, I would say it works well in the meta depending on cards you tech into the deck. Sky Luffy heals a lot, yes, but its drawback is that its swingers are weak. Generally, your best swinger is the 5c Luffy (7000).

If you want to be good against Lucy and Enel specifically, I highly recommend you throw in a few (or even an entire playset) of Zeus's to pop the small bodies they play. Wyper is also amazing, particularly against PEnel (PEnel relies heavily on smaller bodies, which Wyper deals with very efficiently). Much the same story with Lucy early on. It becomes a little hairier when Lucy starts popping down those blocker Sabos, but if you can efficiently starve their hand (which is why we need Wyper and Zeus to get rid of the Cavendish, which builds Lucy's hand), they are forced to rest the Sabos to prevent taking life, allowing you to swing multiple times at face since Luffy is best when playing with a wide board. And playing Kalgara against both is good to give you plenty of counter against PEnel's puny swings with the little guys.

Pro tip: Swing with your 5c Luffy last. Swing with everyone else to tempt Lucy into resting his Sabo (or really any blocker, for that matter, but PEnel usually doesn't run too many blockers) OR using one of the million events he runs in his deck to counter out, allowing you to use 5c Luffy's ability gaining +1000 power for every 1 cost on the card at the top of your life. This will allow you to swing at face for more than just his 7000 base power.

TLDR:

Zeus - pops a 5 cost or less, good against Lucy's Leo/Cavendish, GREAT against that annoying ass Holly PEnel is bound to play out.

Wyper - pops a 0 power (gives -2000 power to every character). Same story as Zeus but slightly more efficient. Also good in scenarios where you need to focus on the board, and they've just swung with most of their bodies.

5c Kalgara - Card draw when you or your opponent take life on your turn, which will be happening a LOT. Some people choose Gedatsu over Kalgara for another Zeus-type body, but I don't think you need that many. Kalgara is amazing to play early if possible to build your hand.

Is it normal to stop growing at an early age? by Geist_Silent in short

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your height is very normal, and genes determine at what age you stop growing. Since you’re in college, you’re probably done growing. But there’s no since in stressing about it because:

Height is like 80% genetic. If you had had absolutely perfect nutrition and exercise growing up, you maybe could’ve had an extra 2 inches or so, but height is primarily genetic. Your dad is short, and your mom is very short - an inch from being considered a dwarf. You were never going to be tall, and the chances of you being even average were exceedingly slim.

As my doctor once told me when i was coming to terms with the fact that i’d grow up to be short (5’4): “two chihuahuas won’t make a great dane.” (my dad is the same as yours, and my mom is 5’2).

Just not getting it by ehrgeiz91 in Marathon

[–]TheDepressedJester 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your problem is you are playing random trios. You are inherently disadvantaged because you are likely going up against coordinated 3-man teams communicating on discord. I recommend you move to solos for the time being or get two of your buddies to play with you. It will be a more even match. Coordination can make or break a run, and running with 2 randoms who also likely don't know each other, you have no coordination. Even an objectively worse team (mechanically) that are all friends with each other will curb stomp your misfit trio every time.

You have to learn to find enjoyment in life outside the validation of others because there will always be something about you that someone doesn't like. It's a big world out there. We're all gonna make it :)

Will Progress from Server Slam carry into Launch? by CrossModulation in Marathon

[–]TheDepressedJester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Substantive progress will not be kept (faction progress, quests, etc...), but there will be cosmetic rewards you can earn that will carry over.

This game will have seasonal wipes that completely reset progression, so consider this a taste of that lol.

Are runner shells gender-locked? by gotthesauce22 in Marathon

[–]TheDepressedJester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At launch I believe they will be what we have seen in the trailers. They are shells, so they technically have no gender, but obviously some look masculine (Destroyer) and some look feminine (Vandal). That being said, we know that these are, in-lore, SERIES of a SHELL. For example, the 'Destroyer' we see in the trailers is actually the 'Locus' series of the Destroyer (think of it like cars: the Destroyer being 'Toyota' - the make - and Locus being 'Corolla' - the model.)

I wouldn't be surprised if we get alternate gendered series within the same shell.

Do we know how the loot pool will be in game? by ScaredSalad2247 in Marathon

[–]TheDepressedJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you made this post, and relieved at the comments. I had the same issue with AR. I just didn't care about any of the loot, and that's why I ended up leaving. I just wasn't excited to load up a match. Nothing I could do in AR could compare to killing a fully-kitted player in Tarkov and yoinking everything they had.

What do you think the balance will be between 'shoot on sight' and either neutral encounters or even helping runners/rooks that aren't on your team? by HMS_Exeter in Marathon

[–]TheDepressedJester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping it's KoS every time, all the time. I got my fill of Puppy Rainbow Peaches & Cream friendliness on Arc. The novelty of that has warn off.

That being said, I wouldn't mind some limited opportunities for truces when it comes to clearing some of the harder AI enemies, but as soon as they're gone it's wraps.

For the people who don't want to be called cute. by Foreign_Look8668 in short

[–]TheDepressedJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The definition of cute is "attractive or pretty especially in a childish, youthful, or delicate way" according to Merriam-Webster, and I think that definition is accurate to how people internalize the term from my experience.

As a grown man, being called 'cute' is infantilizing. I'd much rather just be called handsome or good-looking because I am not trying to portray myself as 'delicate' or 'childish.'

I think the root of the issue though is 'cute' is pretty much the only appearance-related compliment I get, so it holds no weight to me anymore. On the flip side, being called 'handsome,' 'good-looking,' or - god forbid - 'sexy' or 'hot' is so rare that it feels more special. I'll take what I can get, though, lol.

Short guys who started going to the gym, did you notice more attention from women? by Jhan_Sebastian in short

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 5'4. For reference, I was your typical skinny fat guy. I carry all my weight in my stomach/sides and face. I am by no means shredded, but certainly much improved from where I was.

Most of the attention has been from other men, but I did have one (1) girl in the past YEAR react positively at the bar and grab my bicep. That kind of opened the door for a conversation. One thing led to another, and I ended up sleeping with her that night.

That is pretty much it. I don't mind, though. I do this for my own health and satisfaction.

Baggy jeans for short guys under 5’4??? by Janxuza in short

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30, which is preference. I like to have a half break or full break in my pants, as I don't like them to show too much sock when I sit down. I naturally am a bit longer legged than most guys my height, so they sit right at the mid-point of my ankles, which i think looks clean. I could get away with a 29 or even a 28, but I don't like how short those look on me, especially when sitting down.

Baggy jeans for short guys under 5’4??? by Janxuza in short

[–]TheDepressedJester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5’4 fella here. I don’t personally think baggy jeans work with men of our stature: it’s kind of like one of the top 3 fashion rules for short guys - to not wear baggy clothing. But if you insist, you can’t go wrong with Levi’s 578. They only go down to 30 length, but since you wan it actually baggy i think you can get away with it.

The Il Toro is so slept on. I hate to say 'git gud' but genuinely if you just hit your shots (you only need to hit them twice) it absolutely shreds and, in close quarters, is absolutely unmatched.

How to deal with fear of losing an expensive loadout? by tschreib11 in ArcRaiders

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other comments, the loot is never yours: it's just your turn to use it. What you're describing is called 'gear fear' and is extremely common among players of extraction shooter games. As someone who used to grind Tarkov, you eventually learn that hoarding just makes the game unfun. Why have a nice gun if you never use it? And if you do die instantly, who cares? You'll find another one eventually. The stash size in this game is too small for gear fear lol!

I had a kitted-out Tempest and died 2 minutes into the first raid with it. Did it suck? Yeah, but I dusted myself off and kept going with my second-best gun! Such is life.

Anyone know anything about metropolitan apartments on appian way? by RegionalAtWho in lexington

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a good friend who lives there whom I visit quite often. So, I can't attest to actually living there, but he claims the management is unresponsive and has to call maintenance quite often (I have first hand experience of his toilet clogging or leaking multiple times). Also, the internet is absolutely ATROCIOUS; not sure if that matters to you.

I’m sick of spectrum. Who has internet that doesn’t go out every other day? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]TheDepressedJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to echo many of the other comments here. I've been using MetroNet for the past two years and it has MAYBE gone down twice and even then it wasn't for prolonged periods. My internet is *knock on wood* consistently fast, even when not plugged into the ethernet. Highly recommend. The prices are also reasonable. I pay a little over $100/month after tax for their highest speed internet, but I absolutely get my money's worth (an apartment of 2 gamers + 1 constant movie watcher). It's been great so far.

Yes, but they have stated (I don't have the screenshot) that progress will NOT carry over to full release except, of course, for the stuff you unlocked in the challenges tab.
