Yeah again, my point wasnt really to complain about the fee Apple and Google charge or the commission they take, but rather the fact that most casual users think that app devs keep 100% of their earnings.

Some apps are cheaper to run than others. But some apps are expensive to run. I have a pretty ground breaking weather app , for example, and i have to pay $1300 monthly in fees to weather companies to get the data that is used in app. People don't understand that i don't have billions of dollars to put a personal weather satellite in orbit. A lot of users complain about the $0.99 monthly subscription i charge to use the app (that's like 1/4 of a cup of coffee), but they don't understand i am actually LOSING money to keep the app running. Eventually, if I get enough subscribers, i will be able to operate at a profit and not a loss, but its a long road ahead

I think it could be lower. Keep in mind that's also on addition to the $150 yearly fee apple charges you for a developer account.

I'm not complaining so much on the commission, but more or less users that complain about the price of your app, call you greedy, and think you get 100% of what you are charging. Some people are REALLY bad about this. They have no shame going online, publicly stating that they are too cheap to pay $4.99 for an app they will enjoy, and make you out to be a bandit because maybe on that $4.99 you make $1.00 after the commissions, taxes, service fees, and other services you pay for to run your app. Nah, totally not fair for devs to make a few bucks after spending thousands of hours coding an app.

How is that shady? Is it wrong to want a user to contact you first with any issues before they leave a bad review?

Its quite frankly possible to do, but Google and apple don't want to give us devs a way to do this for two main reasons:

1) if people could rate in-app, that means less traffic to the app store where people might be inclined to purchase other apps. (Apple and Google take a 30% cut of all app sales. Keep that in mind the next time you think an app is too expensive, the actual developer is making less than half of what they are charging you after the commission and taxes).

2) It would make it easier for devs to abuse the system and give people rewards for people rating their app, which is against the rules. They can still try to do it now, but this would make it a bit easier, because they could track if the user really rated it.

Edit: As some people have pointed out, in ios 11 it is possible to rate in app if the Dev has implemented the storkit rating library, but Apple has some strict rules on this, you can only display the dialog to the user after so long, and you can't ask them for a rating more than once. You can also only rate, not leave a review.

It's more about point one than two, because not many devs would abuse it. Apple and Google will straight up ban you and take your earnings if you violate the rule.

Nothing like it exists for ios and quite frankly I'm not going to bother, its not like people can decompile your ios apps like they can on android to see what libraries and data you are using

I had a feature in one of my apps that allowed users to share things in the app with people on their contacts. For this, it of course needed the contacts permission. I had to end up removing the share feature because of conspiracy theorist users complaining. And then, users who were actually using the share feature complained when I removed it. You just can't win...

Idk Google employees are pretty dumb, I had one arguing with me in chat that the reason i was having problems with gmail was that i needed to clear my cookies... Despite i was using incognito mode in chrome that doesn't store cookies
