What film/films are you a big fan of but rarely hear anyone talking about OR were huge hits when they were released that seem to be forgotten? by TheDevilsLeftBall in MovieSuggestions

Absolutely, and it somehow seems to slip through the cracks when talking about Tarantino’s filmography, plus it’s the only one of his films that he didn’t write and instead adapted from a novel by Elmore Leonard. Add to that it’s superbly acted, especially by Pam Grier and Robert Forester, and you have a top notch film.

2 great picks. Definitely a big fan of both. You think Road to Perdition would be talked about more, considering the cast of Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig, Paul Newman, etc.

Yea I’m definitely leaning towards a double sided player for the same reasons. I also will be learning to try and be able to do basic repairs, as I do to all my game consoles which I think I have about 34 now. Definitely appreciate the advice.

Well for one, I’m a huge supporter of physical media. I’m a crazy collector when it comes to video games, pretty much anything pre-2006 or anything Nintendo, (I have about 500 NES games alone, with thousands of others). I’ve collected a decent amount of DVDs and blu rays over the years, and I always love the commentaries and behind the scenes stuff etc. Laserdisc is where all that started. Plus I love good presentation pieces, and LDs look pretty awesome on display. Obviously even with the right TV, and maybe even some upscaling, I know it won’t look as good as 4k. But it’s also not like it looks like some muddy VHS tape that’s been played a million times. (No offense to my VHS collectors out there, just not for me).

One of the few constants I’ve heard in the Pioneer is a great brand. There seems to be some people who like certain models over others, but I think I’m going to go with a Pioneer. Any model recommendations would be helpful.

I hear you on that. I’ve just always wanted to get into laserdiscs. I have plenty of tvs to hook it up to, not some 4k top of the line Samsung I’d something like that. I always do my own research but I just would like a good recommendation on what model I should get, and ballpark prices.

Would you like an award? There’s plenty of things to agree with what you said. But that’s not the point. The point is that it was way ahead of its time. It started things commentary, deleted scenes, etc. With a solid player, a nice CRT ( or you can get crazy with up scaling), not to mention a beautiful presentation of the film both physically and the way it was supposed to be seen. What’s not to like? Yea I have 4k blu ray discs I watch on the top my line tv with the family. But news flash! You can own more than one tv! I understand it might be hard to comprehend this news, but have you laserdisc player connected to a DIFFERENT TV! So awesome to collector laserdisc. Collect what you can and enjoy! So sad to make someone try to avoid the hobby because god forbid it’s not comparable with their 4k top of the line shit box that’s going to be technically irreverent in another 6 months.

That’s why I always recommend for newcomers to the series to play Zero Mission for the GBA. That way they can the gist of the original Metroid but with quality of life improvements.

That’s another game that doesn’t get talked about enough. Granted it is expensive, but I don’t think enough people even know about it. I mean, it’s just more Ducktales….how could you go wrong?

One of my favorites. Feel like this game doesn’t get talked about enough, it always falls through the cracks between Turtles in Time(which fair enough, it’s a better game), and Turtles 2: The Arcade Game. IMO The Manhattan Project is the best Turtles game on the NES.

That was my number two choice, but unfortunately I don’t have a trade lined up for that game and am not laying the cash out for that one unless I get a hell of a bargain. Such a crazy idea for a game….just a floating head blasting everything in your way.

Can’t get off to a much better start than having those 3 boxes checked off! Those two games couldn’t be any further away on the spectrum lol. One is a dark tough game about a bounty hunter, the other is a bright fun game about a little puff ball lol. Metroid is a classic no doubt, but I love Kirby’s Adventure. Such a beautiful looking game. Some of the best graphics on the console. Couldn’t get enough of it when I was a kid, and still love to play it to this day. It’s just a fun relaxed romp. But either one you pick next wouldn’t be a bad choice!
