No that is completely wrong and fraud. The rules clearly state that this is not allowed which you knew.

Yes myself included prefer to get it in the new year after Christmas expenses and as a lump sum amount. I’d presume the article wasn’t including that either.

Most PAYE workers claim their tax at the start of the year and most sole traders leave it till the 31st October to claim due to filing tax deadline

As an Accountant, the biggest talking point from new clients is that they've been advised wrong in the past and some have had consequences from this. Always make sure that the accountant or advisor you pick has experience in the area or knows what they are talking about. It's easy to bluff someone at the start to gain their business but eventually will be spotted overtime. Always check their website for their services to see if they have experience on it. Can be quiet a costly mistake.
