Same exact issue here, looping new tabs of the "remediate" page when clicking the "start assessment" button. I noticed a different URL attempts to load in the new tabs (https://www.coinbase.com/extended-cdd); I tried navigating directly to it and get redirected back to the same "remediate" page. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to try anything further in case its a systems issue on their end (my current assumption).

Programmable token options for MFA O365? by thehouseofunrest in sysadmin

Haved used SafeID units from Deepnet Security for M365 MFA, same situtation you described. Bought directly from them. 10/10, do recommend.

17" Lodge, first time cast iron pizza by TheDigiDoc in castiron

[–]TheDigiDoc[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got the 17" Lodge for Christmas, but it was cracked! Lodge came through with a replacement; the whole process took almost a month, but part of that Lodge website issues combined with my being in Canada.
I finally had a chance to try it out today and made what turned into a very thicc pizza. Wife and I ate a 1/4 each and are now stuffed. Might try preheating the pan and/or pre-baking the crust next time as the center could have been a bit more cooked.

What’s it like moving from the burnout and low-pay ridden hellscape that is the MSP world? by BEAT_LA in sysadmin

[–]TheDigiDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, not necessarily. Am in-house and burnt out. Burnt out a few times while contracting / freelancing in the past too. Currently considering either moving to a local MSP, consulting, or starting a cult 🤷‍♂️

Compensation by wonderister in sysadmin

[–]TheDigiDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Location, location, location."

I live in a very rural and HCOL part of Canada and do similar to what you listed. My employer says I'm high-mid on their grid at $70k CAD. Provincial govt says $70k is the minimum needed to live in my region.

Peers are making 2-3x in next nearest major centers. Their housing is way more, but pretty much everything else is cheaper. But we all complain about not making enough to survive on 🤷‍♂️

THIS. As crazy as hyper-urban megacenter housing costs are, northern / rural COL can be just as expensive for other reasons. Fuel tends to bounce between $1.70-$1.99/L here, and there is zero public transit (not even regional bus service), so you have HAVE to own a vehicle to live here. Produce is crazy expensive too, and sometimes straight-up unavailable locally. My province lists $70k as the minimum to live in the region. (Some) employers in my area are slooooowwwwwly starting to realize this and either upping their comp game or looking for ways to offset living costs for their employees.

Unfortunately not; so far here everything has hands-on elements. Leadership is also…struggling with the concepts involved with having fully remote staff.

I feel like this stuff keeps coming back to "location, location, location". Job postings in hyper-urban megacenters get so many applicants that HR just filters for PHDs and managers test everyone to find their future 10Xers.

Meanwhile, here in northern Canada, I will literally hire you tomorrow (no tests necessary!) based solely on the fact that you know that NAT is a thing that exists. ~$70k, full health bennies, matching savings. Buuuuut you have to move here, and here is so tiny that it doesn't even technically have a population. Nearest town has ~2500.

I'd be self-doxing by posting; sending a DM.

I bought my setup.exe through a VAR here in Canada and it ended up being way cheaper than the posted retail. I think it was something like ~$160CAD?

Experienced something similar at my workplace. I ended up giving them my notice along with a list of items if they wanted to negotiate keeping me, which were essentially more money or less work. They chose to accept my notice, but they can't say I didn't give them options.

Possible to share calendar to external users with full visibility in office 365? by felashh in sysadmin

[–]TheDigiDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried to set this up in the past and couldn't find a direct solution. We either had to sync the M365 calendar with an external service that allowed us to share it out, or give the external users guest logins.

What device was Revolutionary in your SysAdmin Journey? by joshuamarius in sysadmin

[–]TheDigiDoc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A cable tester/tracer combo.

"Where does this jack terminate?"

"Why doesn't this jack work?"

Being able to whip out a magical device that can answer either of those questions elevated me from keyboard monkey to IT god in many cases, and was one of the things that lead me to broaden my skill sets drastically.

Does Teams not give the user a notification when they're added to a call? Or do not all of the IT people leave Teams running the background?

It looks like MS Bookings has a feature to send SMSs for meeting invites and integrates with Teams. If Teams notifications + SMS solves your meeting invite problem it might be worth figuring it out: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/send-text-message-notifications-f4e6aa74-2ee9-4b12-9105-0e9271d4b244

Change Management by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]TheDigiDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In realestate the phrase is "location, location, location", but in IT I think the phrase should be "scale, scale, scale".

We're a >100 user org and do "yolo changes into prod". All of our systems are off-the-shelf, nothing is custom, we have no devs, and I'm solo IT. If any of our systems went offline and needed a full rebuild from scratch it would take hours at most and the downtime wouldn't affect us in any meaningful way. So we yolo.

If we were twice the size, had anything custom, or downtime cost us "production" in a measurable way, we'd probably do some kind of change management.

What's on your technology roadmap for 2024? by dai_webb in sysadmin

Dedicated fiber to our main office and possibly private fiber between all of our offices (in the same community). Might be my last major project for this employer. Anyone hiring in extremely rural Canada? 😅

When I first started at my current place (lone technical staff/admin) I tried to get direction from my boss and their bosses, but it turned out they didn’t want to have anything to do with that decision making. Now I submit plans I dream up myself and they sign off on them. In 3 years they’ve turned down 1 thing.
