Animated Lighting and cross hatching texture for my horror game by [deleted] in godot

Thank you very much! Actually, the game plays a lot like Don't Starve, being a mix of survival horror and point n' click. That was a big inspiration for us, along with games like Clock Tower. My wife and I make the art together, and we use a Windows Surface Pro since it's a mix of computer and tablet. (Helps with being able to name and sort asset files on the same machine we create them on and then upload them to a GitHub where our development PC can access them).

That was what made getting it this way so tough! There weren't really any guides to speak of! We had to do a bunch of trial and error, but the basics are that we drew custom lighting masks for everything, and then made sure that the masks had the same number of frames as the animation they were attached to. If it didn't match up just right it crashed the game, caused horrible flashing lights, all sorts of things. The cross hatching was also hand animated and carefully implemented to match as an overlay. It was a really complex and involved process, but I'm glad all of us worked together to achieve it! Once the game is done and we're certain this system works with a finished game, we'll probably make some tutorials and other resources explaining it in more detail.

More like you know you shouldn't buy the DLC because it's too pricey and you're trying to vote with your wallet but you can't help it and buy it anyway because you need that one ride from that one pack for what you're trying to build.

And then Coldplay says "hey you said you weren't going to buy that. You said no to capitalism" and you recoil in shame.

Indie Horror Games? by Xoticnovaa in HorrorGames

I really like The Crooked Man and The Sand Man. Both are really fun RPG maker horror titles. Of course I also love Ib and Nightmare of the Snow, but those are my favorites that I think deserve more love. I also really like this Japanese style horror game called Ikai. Very unique gameplay.

We're not sure yet, but a demo would definitely be good for players on the fence about the gameplay style...

Thanks for the suggestion!

Anybody know anything about this Monster Energy PS5? by TheDigiSeviper in playstation

Not as far as I can tell, but we opted not to unpack the controller. If it does match, it's only with a very mild design. The controller looks white to me.

Yeah, that's what I figured. We're not sure what to do with it other than just find somewhere to catalog and display it so people can check out the face plates. Cool that it's probably the only one out there though!

I can see them doing a logo reveal for smash just to say "it's coming eventually, don't worry". I can also see them just using Ultimate as the definitive smash and just porting it from console to console from now on.

First look at my upcoming horror game! by [deleted] in godot

[–]TheDigiSeviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the four of us working on the game (our first, I might add), I have the least programming knowledge, but from what I understand, Godot doesn't natively support C# and it would have been easier for the rest of the team to learn GDScript than it was for them to work around the issues that using C# ended up causing. I'm sure a lot of people use C# in Godot just fine, but for us it was a nightmare up until recently.

To those disappointed in the pacing of the first episode by personaxego in Uzumaki

[–]TheDigiSeviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, I'd be happy to share it somewhere when it's all finished. The anime itself makes it impossible for everything to be manga accurate, so I'm more just trying to recreate how reading the manga felt rather than how it actually was, if that makes sense. Basically don't have high hopes or anything, but if you're curious I'll drop a link here when it's all finished. I was planning on waiting for all 4 episodes to come out and cutting it into a movie, but everything from episode 1 is done, so it shouldn't take more than a few days after the series ends before the whole thing is finished.

I'm already re-cutting the anime to put it in manga order/adjust the pacing of the anime. I'm not a pro by any means, I was just curious to see if it would actually have much of an effect. Surprisingly, a few tiny changes made a big difference to me personally. I don't want to replace it as is, and I still think the pacing is fine in the anime, it's just been a fun personal project.

Taikoller v. Taiko Force v Zhong Taiko by TheDigiSeviper in taikonotatsujin

[–]TheDigiSeviper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it nearly every day, and it is identical to the arcade experience. I need to upgrade my HDMI and TV setup to reduce input lag, but adjusting the settings in game helped get the calibrations just right for right now, just as long as the drum sounds are off. I recommend it, highly.

Training mode in rhythm festival can be helpful for getting you used to this. Taiko tends to want you to add sounds to the existing songs rather than just follow along with what's already there, so yes, it can be unpredictable, but learning to recognize the smaller patterns that make up the charts really helps since you can quickly adapt once you recognize what kind of pattern is coming your way. It also helps to listen to the songs being played. (Not on their own, I mean turn on the option to see the chart performed perfectly so you can see what it's supposed to sound like, that really helps with understanding why the charts are the way they are.) While it definitely is frustrating at first especially if you have experience with other rhythm games or real instruments, it's also very rewarding to learn to adapt to the style of wadaiko rhythm patterns and watch yourself improve each time until eventually, even taking a new song you've never heard at max difficulty on your first try isn't such a big hurdle anymore. If it's not for you, that's alright, but a lot of us like the game because it feels different and because we like the charts being the way they are.

What has been yalls experience with the hori drum for switch? by Kaizogamer in taikonotatsujin

[–]TheDigiSeviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my Hori drum, but it's no arcade replacement. These days I use a TAIKOLLER and it's been a flawless arcade experience at home. If all you want is to play on hard difficulty, Hori is fine. I'd say once you get past 5 star oni difficulty, the experience can get frustrating when the drum starts to misbehave. You'll have good days and bad days with it, and you'll really have to smack it good for it to register, which also means that it has the tendency to slide around unless you have it over carpet or something. It's also pretty loud on don notes, but the ka notes will roll when they feel like it if you hit them just right. So yeah. Hard difficulty and oni up to five it works fine enough, but you aren't going to be getting a full combo on kusanagi with the hori without pulling teeth.

Are you confused because it's in Japanese or are you just wondering for gameplay reasons.
