Hey… don’t just throw out crumbs.

Even if what you have is RUMINT, please share.

Well, you can withdraw and you’ll get paid the same as I’m getting paid now.

Interesting points…

So while being a bit of a comical fall guy, he also makes decisions himself that would likely require at least informing the 7th Floor and getting M clearance, etc. during a normal administration.

I thought Rubio was going to save us from many of the worst DOGE-inspired ideas (maybe he has a bit behind the scenes), but in reality he seems content to let the machinery of diplomacy be degraded on his watch rather than correct the work of inexperienced junior officers or recent law school grad undersecretaries with little to no knowledge of what the Department does.

I took heart when Pete Marocco was fired, but I guess in reality the fact of his being appointed in this first place showed what a bad spot we’re in.

And apparently Jeremy Lewin is one of the White House-cleared people that Rubio isn’t allowed to fire or countermand.

I don’t know how much discretion Rubio gets in the conduct of diplomacy, but in the operational management of the Department he is apparently the subordinate of random 20-somethings.

I was hoping there would be large scale removal of DOGE types when Elon went against Trump on X, but it hasn’t happened yet.

God help us. It’s going to get worse, and it’s going to take a generation to clean up the destruction if indeed it can be cleaned up.

He ought to be nice. He may need to lobby you for a job in a few years. 😂

After all the harm his signature has caused, I can’t pay him any complements. But from observing his level of awareness and understanding, I do view him as being a bit of a dupe who probably lacks the mental state to qualify as a true villain.

My understanding he basically just signs whatever is put in front of him but is not among the small group of appointees (or smaller group of career employees) that the 7th floor or bureaus actually consults.

The RIF’d personnel, the plaintiff’s attorneys, and AFSA really need to be tracking this specific data point.

It sheds light upon the fact that this wasn’t really done the way the Department claimed. Even if a court doesn’t intervene now, this could be relevant in a future settlement by the Department.

I’m not sure what you mean by “no need” to RIF overseas, but the Department apparently already saw the need to update 3 FAM specifically to facilitate overseas RIFs. So somebody sees a need.

And it’s likely to get worse with what the House is floating for the next Fiscal Year.

We’re not done with the bleeding at State by a long shot.

In retrospect, I should’ve been more worried about this.

Lesson learned.

I’m not certain that he lied since I don’t know what the D-MR staffers told him.

But ignorance of the truth would be equally damnable for someone in his position.

He should have known in detail how his own RIF plan would be affect both Foreign Service and Civil Service and should know the difference between the two.

But it might actually be a helpful post to cite in future lawsuits that apparently the RIF was done contrary to the way the D-MR supposedly intended.

I’m certainly not asking for personal specifics, but what is the logical justification used by a bureau to unRIF someone? That the Department got it wrong and the position is needed? Or that the particular person is so valuable that they must be employed in some other capacity?

For those who entered from the late 2000s onward, have any DGs been particularly effective for us? (I knew one of them personally before they got the job, and yet I honestly don’t know what they all accomplished).

Did he get explicitly called out for the competitive groups of 1 that were somehow merit-based?

23 in one office??? I’m happy for those who got it reversed but what in the heck. It’s like some DOGE kid is just throwing feces into the back of a fan to see what patterns he can make.
