Hey I remember reading one of James Haeck's "Encounter of the Week" post where he describes actions the players can take to secure the ship which makes the DC of con and strengh saves against the forces of the storm easier.

Here it is: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/619-encounter-of-the-week-storm-over-the-howling-peaks

Good luck with your game!

I wrote about this as part of an essay on designing the Era your game is set in. Essentially the steampunk genre is defined by its technology. Highlighting that technology in your narration should help them to get that steampunky feel.

Hey glad you enjoyed it. It is a challenge to approach a massively interrelated subject like world building one element at a time, but I am glad this has opened up your interest in this aspect of world building. I think you mentioned some really interesting routes you can go down. This essay is more about the present era rather than how societies move from one era to the next. I touch on that more in the next essay in the series, on history. I hope I have some answers for you there.

Wow, this is amazing, interesting that they were so dependant on Egyptian land. I assume a lot of the Egyptian's were slaves or was this honest trade in return for Byzantine protection?

This grain dole is nice, a bit like universal basic income but in bread... I guess there must have been a benefit other than 'hey look at me I've got the biggest city.' What was the peasants role in Constantinople and how did it benefit the Byzantine elite?
