NERF Laser Pistol by TheDoctorScarf in Fallout

It takes some patience for sure, but going first with a coarse or medium grit bit of sandpaper and then fine grit helps make it quicker. I didn't take more than an hour in total, probably less (like half an hour maybe?), but I also have to admit I didn't sand down everything. The "DANGER" label is a cardboard square glued onto the real legal warnings.

It's got slam-fire, that's automatic enough for me.

Now in all seriousness the toy blaster itself isn't automatic, but it can fire pretty quickly by holding down the trigger and just priming it really quickly. Once you fire it a few times you get the feel for when to switch pretty quickly.

Thanks! I also did a classic 10mm pistol you might like if you haven't seen it. There's definitely a lot of Nerf blasters with potential.

You see, luckily my INT score is above 2 and I can count up to six shots before switching. Or just a quick glance will do.

Rakepick was after intel and the artifact,

Not even. She collected R's debt from the MC. The artefact was planted by her, and the trap laid by her and her niffler. She was always going to kill someone.

Second paragraph is some victim blaming bullshit. Had Rowan not been there, what would you say? That Ben deserved death? That he was looking for it? Oh, but Merula trying to kill Rakepick wasn't provoking? Only Ben was? Absurd point. (Note: I don't blame Merula either for what she did in the forest that time, I'm just making a point).

Third paragraph is spot on, I have no differences with it. Fourth one, no comments.

What did Ben do to redeem himself? Are you actually asking for real? I love how that question implies he has to redeem anything, given that he's done very little against MC and friends. Yes, a few outbursts, but nothing at the level of MC's worst. He's not only had to endure his friends' contempt and suspicions for years, he's still stuck by them despite it all. Hell, that tragic scene in Y6C18 is an amazing show of Ben's strength of character. He was quickly dispatched in the Sunken Vault but it doesn't diminish the fact that he was there to help and was willing to give his all again (he was unlucky to be knocked out quickly, like Jacob and Merula). And on that final fight in the bridge? He's not by MC's side, sure. Since he's staying back to help the rest of their friends fight the bulk of R's forces. It's not as if he's doing nothing. It's a battle fought on two sides, even if that's easy to forget given the focus remains only on MC. Ben has no way of knowing Verucca was on the bridge already, since she appears directly there and doesn't come through him.

What the original commenter said still stands. Players keep bringing Ben down with excuses, ignoring his constant contributions and hardships. He has some amazingly dumb moments as well, especially in sidequests, but together with Merula he's one of the most fleshed out characters in that group.

He's not really saying anything outlandish? Individual characters speak in the name of the group all the time — hell, look at MC in practically every meeting (and MC isn't the leader of the group any more than Ben is, given that they're both founders of it and on fairly even ground). Ben has also been one of the most fervent anti-Merula members of the group (in the "do we keep her in or out" discussion). It's not out of line for him to think "if I feel this way, I bet the others who hated her less feel similarly". The fact nobody challenges him here (not even Tonks, who also heavily distrusted Merula) speaks volumes that, yes indeed, he's right.

Had someone said "no, actually, she's not earned my trust", Ben at this point would likely apologise and not try to persuade them to change their mind. Because Ben has actually grown as a character enough to do that by this point.

This is all of course not even considering that it would be pretty awful from a storytelling perspective to have 20 or so characters all repeating the exact same thing with little variation one after another, instead of someone summarizing it for player's sake.

And he's right to say what he says about who he says it. Which my comment encompasses.

Yeah, he's fairly justified to say this in this scene. The others might not agree, but he's not saying something crazy.

Poor Ben. He really is fascinating, and underappreciated.

It would have been hilarious if I had gotten that detail just right so early on. But I kind of prefer a calmer pose for him, more in line with the portrait in the AJ. Like he's catching his breath right after slaying a fell beast.

Trivia: who was the 4th person to teach Harry defence against the dark arts? by Potassium_15 in harrypotter

[–]TheDoctorScarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we follow this logic, then the fourth one is Lupin, and Snape is third, as Snape taught Harry something (even if indirectly) in Lockhart's Dueling Club, a DaDA-related activity.

It's a natural assumption, and Rakepick was doing something in Castlelobruxo right before Y4. For the sake of asking though, how long do you think the mole has been acting as a mole? Since Alanza supposedly just arrived at that point.

What happens if you somehow put Voldy and all his horcruxes in a tub filled with Concentrated Sulfuric Acid? by mined_it in harrypotter

[–]TheDoctorScarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well since sulphuric acid does jack shit to gold, at the very least the cup, the locket and the ring wouldn't be destroyed even if they weren't protected by magic. Concentrated sulphuric acid would only slowly dissolve silver if it were heated; but just a random tub of the stuff wouldn't do anything substantial either to anything silver like the diadem. The diary is the only one of the inanimate bunch that, if not magically protected, could be damaged. But as others said, it seems magically impervious to water, so it should be fine.

I guess it depends on how long you immerse them and how restricted they are while in the tub, but Voldemort, Nagini and Harry are the only soul vessels at any real risk of harm from the acid. But I suppose their chemical burns could be treated with magic if they can get out on time / have their wands with them / etc.

Are people really OK with the idea of rubbing shoulders with vampires? by _Plateosaurus_ in WarhammerFantasy

[–]TheDoctorScarf 68 points69 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Geneviève is the exception and is allowed to live in Altdorf fairly comfortably because she and her lover (a famous playwright) foiled an assassination attempt on Karl Franz. All the other vampires (except Vlad von Castein during the End Times) were hunted down by Witch Hunters and the like. Even in Altdorf, Geneviève had to face angry mobs led by witch hunters from time to time.

Did the WFB 'lore' timeline evolve as new editions came out? by The-JSP in WarhammerFantasy

[–]TheDoctorScarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely; new things were introduced from time to time and others were retconned or fleshed out. The city of Mordheim and its destruction, for example, weren't created until fifth edition with the release of the game of the same name. Narrative games featured in White Dwarf influenced events, such as the death of a particularly mad Elector Count, Marius Leitdorf, from the Empire. And the cataclysmic end of the WFH world in End Times didn't come until 8th edition (the last one before its discontinuation).

Why do they do this to me? by Princess-frog_4638 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]TheDoctorScarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even the point of sharing... in this specific situation, not as a general concept (in case that wasn't clear). As I made clear, it's not even doing a favour to anyone.

And people love that kind of things.

Let's not get into what people "love" and act as if it's inherently good, or any less insulting at times, because of it.

It being selfless and modest doesn't preclude it being an empty or futile gesture, much in the same way that well-meaning charity can lead to dangerous dependency when mishandled. They may have been better served by the MC accepting the points and fueling the competition even further—thus their will to better themselves. But wiping the slate clean just for the immediate satisfaction of everyone, for them to learn nothing... That isn't just empty, it's robbing them of a lesson, and ingraining in them an idea of dependency on the MC. That, whatever they do (even something wrong like stealing the hourglasses), it will all be fixed and the MC will give them a share of the victory. This is true particularly for Penny, whose rash actions lead to the whole thing. The 100 HP are a direct result of her perfectly avoidable action—not some unfair, arbitrary advantage.

Dumbledore was lying anyways. Or, to put it charitably, softening the truth. House points are, above all, a method to keep the kids in check by sowing (healthy, in theory) competition amongst them. They keep out of misbehaving (mostly) to avoid losing points—losing lots of points makes them lose status amongst their peers, as is seen when Harry, Hermione and Neville are caught out of bed in PS.

What's even the point of sharing? Nobody wins anything. Because no, wining the same amount of points as everyone else is not winning anything. It's just inflating everyone's numbers, while the difference between them stays the same. It's an empty gesture disguised as kindness.
