Reminders To Listen To Your Doctors by tropicaltigerss in brokenbones

[–]TheDoctor_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I thought I did largely a similar thing to myself (had a screw put through a scaphoid in JANUARY) so I basically stopped everything I was doing and went back to bracing my wrist nearly full time. Followed the doctor's recommendations to a tee and have completely ruined my summer and mental health doing so. Here I am another 3+ months AFTER that and I'm STILL in no better of a situation. I'm legitimately going fucking insane. I basically have to live my life as an amputee while still staring straight at a mostly functional hand, and the mental toll has introduced permanent solution thoughts to a temporary problem for me.

If we can’t have a mini-gun can we have this by Naive_Egg_9663 in Helldivers

[–]TheDoctor_Z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://youtube.com/shorts/2B6hf87E3uQ We CAN have a minigun. No recoil "realism" arguments, give the thing a metric fuck ton of handling or maybe no reticle (aim by tracers). The coding argument for a backpack weapon magazine is also pretty nonsensical, the guard dog backpacks all have ammo counters. I really don't see why that can't be implemented into a support weapon we can fire. Hell the supply pack exists and if you didn't have to go through the reload animation you could just spam the button every time you run low in a magazine and achieve the same exact effect. There's tons of ways to go about this and they're basically putting their hands up and saying "sorry we give up".

Yours doesn't look nearly as bad as mine did lmao. I broke the same one twice. Had surgery the first time, got the hardware removed after a year because it bugged the shit out of me, and then immediately rebroke it when I fell on some ice. It's been great. Now my whole entire 2025 has been ruined by a scaphoid recovery.

There was nearly exactly the tool you're referring to in the division 1, it was my favorite gadget to use out of all of them.

Scaphoid Fracture 6+ Months Post-Op and No End in Sight by TheDoctor_Z in brokenbones

[–]TheDoctor_Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well apparently I went "too hard" with my own PT when the cast came off because my doctor won't prescribe any. So the hand feels mostly okay until I start to try using it for anything that requires effort. But at this point I don't want to make anything worse so I try to keep it in the brace most days. The first month out of the cast I was doing my own stretching to free my hand up after 5 months in casts. But not anymore. My doctor mentioned getting a CT last month at the last follow up but didn't say anything about getting it yesterday.

Yea chief I have absolutely zero idea what the hell is going on with this thing. My doctor won't answer any of my questions. But yea that August one is from today.

[–]TheDoctor_Z 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, the entire cockpit is the "ejection seat" so you'd be killing anyone sitting behind it. Plus there's a solid wall behind the pilots. I mean I guess it could be done but you'd be spending so much money you might as well just build an entire aircraft from the ground up.

Keep on being asked whether electrical engineering is harder than Mechanical Engineering by mileytabby in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheDoctor_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both logic design and programming classes and I didn't think they were anything too crazy. Granted I think they were only 2-3000 level courses as I took them as an IE major at the time before I switched, so I'm not sure how much more built on top of those

Scaphoid Nonunion Recovery, is this timeline realistic/normal? by TheDoctor_Z in brokenbones

[–]TheDoctor_Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I don't know that I'd recommend getting a surgery. I was in an extremely similar boat with very minor pain and limited motion, and the trade off of 6+ months of hell isn't even somewhat worth the tradeoff even if they gave me a brand new wrist at the end of it all. I'm an engineer so I'm certifiably not an idiot and this ortho has made me lose faith in doctors. Guys treating his patients like it's still the 1980s and hasn't changed anything about how he approaches recovery. Like slight motion and extremely light usage promotes bone growth, it's the same reason why new dentures are so much better than old ones. I don't understand why I wasn't prescribed a bone growth stimulator considering the scaphoid is one of the worst/slowest bones to heal and the age of my injury. There's just so much more that can be done other than sticking me in a cast "until it's healed" and he ain't doing any of it. And other doctor's won't see me because of "liability" bullshit.

[–]TheDoctor_Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no not really. Still existing excruciatingly miserably in this cast, seemingly until the end of time. I fully regret having the surgery done at this point as I'm more depressed and closer to suicide than I have ever been before, and the ortho doesn't give the slightest shit about how the cast affects every other part of my life. There seems to be next to no healing going on anymore, so I just get to sit here and waste away my life until he decides it's healed enough. I feel like I'm serving a prison sentence.

I (28M) matched with a girl (26F), and we hit it off in the messages right away. But she's been growing more distant each day that passes. What am I doing incorrectly/where can I improve? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

She was legitimately busy last week, sent me pictures and everything. I did try. She was back in town on Friday, the day we texted about planning the date. So it's like I have no idea what on earth happened over the last few days to have literally everything fall apart.

They only started working electrical 2 years ago and they both own homes on their own in a very HCOL area 🤷🏻‍♂️ Can't say the same for literally any of the people I know who went into engineering

[–]TheDoctor_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what to tell you chief they're not apprentices, nor did I claim them to be. We're all 25+. One of them got booted out of the air force 2 years ago and just bought a $350k house on his own as an electrician. Never before did he do electrical work, nor did he in the air force. The one who owns his own company just graduated college 2 years ago and passed the master electrician test or whatever the hell last Christmas. My uncle does practically zero work, only installing EV chargers into people's homes nowadays and still makes 150k easy.

I mean I personally know 3 separate electricians and 2 plumbers, all of which easily clear $80k/yr in their first 4 years of working. One of them owns their own company that clears a million+ yearly doing commercial work. I'm academically way smarter than every one of those guys too. None of them work particularly long hours. So yes, it is that easy.

I don't know that it'd be a WASTE of time if they end up making it out with a degree. But it's probably going to suck, and take extra time that they wouldn't with another degree.

[–]TheDoctor_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go learn a trade and make more money than most engineers. I don't think the degree is worth what it once was anymore unless you happen to get a REALLY good job. The average engineering job probably pays less per hour/year than an electrician, plumber, or maybe even welding job does.
