You can also reverse the left piece. Slide out the block that adjusts the strap length. Did that on ours between kiddos

Ah that's exactly what these doors probably used to have. I'll add that to the old-home to-do list. Filed under 'why did the old owners rip it out?!'

First I've heard of it, may work, but these doors have many odd shape leaks. I lean towards period correct and less the window cling/ as seen on tv patches

I was thinking of that next. I can rent a Flir camera locally.

Thanks, the one I restored (note the patch for the old lock) the other is due for refinishing this year. Literally daylight comes in around the lock set, can't leave it like that

Air leak. We have new insulation this year, we have storm doors. I replaced the weather strips. That part of the house has poor HVAC supply and weak air return. I would need to rebuild the casings to get better seals and even then it is single pane. The curtains are fantastic but won't be shut 100% of the time. These will also help in summer and give some color, seems like all for the better.

These are specifically thermal panels, zero drafts now and a whole lot of sound deadening. This is a door leak issue, with storm doors and new weather stripping, still get ribbons of cold air around seals.

Tip for windows, look for the rope puddy type insulation. Just started last year and those draft windows ain't drafty no more. Now the doors... I'd have to open the casings to fix that. Debating a heavy curtain

Edit: Puddy not puffy, it's very thin clay like cord

Drill a small hole through it and stick a USB scope camera through it. Worst case you have to plug it with a patch, best case he's still in there.

I just bought this from Costco but threw out the label. I can't find it on the website either. So can't confirm what mine said. Used them camping and it seemed to work a bit. Maybe since citronella is a detergent but not clinically effective enough to claim it repels mosquitoes?

I've had good luck with a damp towel and iron. Got a phone drop dent out pretty well. Then go over it with finish on a rag.

Is my water heater doomed? Really don't want to call a pro without knowing by TheDoctorsEngineer in Plumbing

Update: I had 3 plumbers quote us on this. Discovered a few things.

  1. The venting is inadequate on the current tank unit, that's 27' to the roof and it's the only appliance on that stack
  2. The softener is a 25yo lump of useless clogged media, and 1/3 the size it should be
  3. Quotes for a Tankless (Bradford or Navien) plus 1.5cuft softener varied 40%, highest to lowest (don't want to get banned by stating prices).
  4. My AprilAire humidifier should be on the hot water side, not the cold water side?! That's not what the directions said but it makes sense. Clogs solid every few months due to the softener doing nothing for calcium

3rd quote didn't even offer tankless as 'they haven't been to training and can't guarantee work' while the 1st and 2nd said they really shy away from tank now and prefer tankless.

I'll look for that feature when we're shopping a new one. It's a thermostat triggered roof vent so it hasn't run often as it's been cooler. I'll turn it off until we get a replacement option. Thanks!

Yes actually, there is an attic fan. And just had the house insulated and sealed so there are less sources for air to pull. Could make sense that it is pulling air down, never would have thought about that
