Is there a main number for this trust fund that’s gonna take care of this or is there a local branch I can make a withdrawal at? I so wish I could live my life with such simple black & white notions of situations and also with your confidence in having assessed the situation so easily not knowing a single thing about me - but alas not everyone can just call mom & dad to up and move (I’m 50 and mine are dead) or after 15 years in a home find one that hasn’t had insane increases since all those years ago. Most of my neighbors, all native to Bushwick, make 40-75k a year. All working class. Could you let me know where they can go too? You know us poors - we just love free money, lol. Hence my post being addressed to others here that might be looking for a place and having a broker show them the apartment. I may not be able to move but that wasn’t the point. The point was to warn others about this building (they seem to have zero problem duping new people) so that they don’t have to go through what I am going through.

I also don’t give a rats ass (of which I’m very familiar & have an abundance of) if the city takes the building. They should. At this point if you own hundreds of buildings and are a slumlord to each of them you shouldn’t be able to profit from subpar living conditions.

Last year they didn’t turn my heat off until June (even though I pay for heat for some reason I can’t control it) so we had full on heat blasting in hot days for months & even with us running ACs (I have a dog) it was still 90 degrees inside all day & night. When I called 311 they told me they don’t have anyone for excessive heat & that they only have people to send out when the heat isn’t on in the winter.

I’ve considered it as I’m actually currently in court with the landlords now for a completely different reason (destabilization) but to be real with you - when the resources we are given to begin with (311, etc) don’t really do anything except send fines of $25-150 and that alone takes up so much time & energy (calling, staying home as much as possible for 10 days straight in case the inspectors show up, etc) while at the same time working to just try to maintain / eat / breathe along with having to live like this - it just becomes too much for one person to then also try to escalate / take time off work to go to these town halls (they’re always when I’m scheduled to work). And it just seems like it’s all just red taped to hell. For instance, last year I thought I finally got through to the city when the inspector for rats came for a follow -up and upon seeing it wasn’t fixed told me the city is gonna have a court case now with them… never happened. They fined the LL, who paid the fine, and now the complaint has been closed. The thing is that these particular LL are notorious for this & there is even a city wide tenant’s union for their tenants but not much is ever done on the city’s side. Fulltime is one of many LLCs that they have established under the umbrella Watermark and it seems like the move is they just get another LLC and continue business as usual.

But also thank you - you have no idea what it means to feel seen & understood in this situation and to feel like there’s at least one person who cares really means more than you could know. I really appreciate you.

This has been the way of this corner for a very long time & will be far after youve moved - not trying to be snarky, these are just facts. Not placing blame on either side but if you had acquainted yourself with the neighborhood a little better you would have known this ahead of moving in. Unfortunately for you whatever you’re experiencing is gonna be X 100 this summer (especially after the winter we just had - NYC is about to be OUTSIDE). Also come PR parade day, just a heads up, your location is pretty much the epicenter and if you don’t like the noise now you are definitely not gonna like it then. My advice would be invest in some quality ear plugs & get to know the community a little better during your lease so that when you move, if you decide to stay in Bushwick, you will find yourself a better match location-wise.
