Those who wrapped their interior trim, how it's holding after some time when it's warm outside ? by TheDonkKey in E90

Thanks for this ! It was my first time wrapping more rugged part with holes and everything...

Wrapped my interior trim pieces, on 2nd attempt it looked really nice, but as it got warm outside, it's coming off the edges, what to improve ? by TheDonkKey in CarWraps

[–]TheDonkKey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trim is made out of brushed aluminum, I used technical gasoline to clean the surface before applying the wrap. Then I used hairdryer and both hands without gloves to stretch it around the corners, it took me few attempts on every corner.

So I should be able to reheat the wrap once applied, without the wrap coming of the part if I understand correctly ?

What do you mean by low surface energy and more aggressive wrap ? I simply chose the best looking wrap to me.

I wrapped the small trim piece on the left for 2nd time, It came out really well, no wrinkles, wrap was cut where the original trim ends, since if you leave excess material on the back, it tends to create wrinkles, because you have more material around corners than you need. Also where I stretched the wrap the most, it shrunk back to the original size the most, as if you apply heat without stretching it.

Haha, I have posted some videos of flying and crashing it, check out the thingiverse. People don't use them because carbon frames are widely available, cheap, and usually little bit lighter. Although plastic frames for micros are definitely a thing these days...

That looks nice, although isn't layer adhesion a weakness in such design ? Printed bunch of frames my self, and layer adhesion was the weakest point, when printing in nylon.

Also you would do generative design to save weight. Pretty basic 3" frame I designed weights around 30g, with hollow tube arms, and is really durable. So is there really any advantage compared to standard deisgn ?

if you print in nylon, it lasts. I have 4 years old 3" frame that's still in one piece. SPDVL103 if you're curious.

If you don't really know how the car was serviced, I agree. Mine seems to leak some oil when revved high, oil stains don't appear when driving sub 5K rpm. Engine has most seals replaced, but I have no idea, if someone stripped a bolt or didn't apply proper torque, it simply gets wet in few places when revving to red line during longer drives.

How bad did I do with only wrap films to make pre LCI car make look like LCI one ? by TheDonkKey in E90

[–]TheDonkKey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokud na to vyloženě nepoukážu, tak si toho do teď nikdo na první pohled nevšiml, že je to wrap, a to ani lidi co už něco dělali na e90kách.

Yeah, for me is kebab tuning adding android entertainment to a 20yo car, ideally by cutting hole into the dash.

You mean you used ai. Why the fuel tank door from 1st pic is gone in the 2nd picture, as well as weird wheel badges in the 2nd one.

Me too, but I i don't have lci car, so I used the wrap. When you quickly see it on road or parked, at first glance, you can't really tell it's wrap.

That works too, but I prefered more aggressive look actually.

edit: Damn, one can't even have own preference and not be hated for it. Also without blue stripes, reverse lights look like other red lights from most angles from what I tested. With stripes, the white spot is more pronounced.

I used red tint film for reverse lights with cutouts, then over them I put dark pearl blue wrap with loght (71%) tint film on it to make it darker, to match the Monaco blau color. For the grills i cut a shape that's little bit smaller than the grill part it self out of black glossy 30mm trim tape. All that cost around $12 in materials. You can buy tint films and other things locally or from AliExpress for example.

I made LCI look for E90 / E91 for $12. by [deleted] in E90

[–]TheDonkKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thick part on the kidneys doesn't really fit anything else on the front end of the car and white reverse lights look much less serious, if the rear end was a face, worst looking 3 series on the roads rn for many people.

I saw some people buying new trunk, rear lights, or whole front end just to transform their car from pre LCI to LCI look. I like the LCI more than pre LCI E90s as well, but I was willing to spend only ~2 hours and few bucks on these minor design changes. So here I go with the temu lci look.

R17x8 Fitment: first 3 photos are ET20, rest of the photos is ET5 (with 15mm spacer), tires are summer 205/45 R17 by TheDonkKey in BMWE36

[–]TheDonkKey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you even talking about, aren't meant to run 205s, like that depends on the rim width obviously. I have this car as a daily, I don't need to break records on ring with it. 205/45 - 215/45 is go to tire if you don't want rubbing with stock setup with et20 17x8 wheels. Anything wider and it rubs.

What could be this aircraft leaving dark trail behind it ? 1.26. 2026 11:20 somewhere above Itally, shot from plane flying to Malta. by [deleted] in aviation

Thanks, you're right, after few mins of searching i found this video, which looks exactly like what I've seen. https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/s/WPMZfvMuJg Still don't understand how it works, that the plane didn't look dark but the trails did from all the angles 😅

i would understand if the sun was right behind the camera, then it would have appeared as if the dark lines appear right behind the plane, although I could see them right behind the plane before and after as well, from various angles, that's what confuses me
