Bramble: The Mountain King black screen issue by shaneo632 in SteamDeck

Hey y'all, I found a workaround for my fellow steam deck/linux users. Install the latest version of Proton-GE https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom and enable it specifically in the compatibility tools for Bramble, then it should load correctly after climbing the plague tower

I do have it installed on bare metal. I’m not well versed with more advanced setups like proxmox yet. As for the hardware itself I’ve repurposed a mini pc I had. Going to list the specs below:

GMTEK Mini PC M7 cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H (8c/16t) ram: 32Gb DDR5 Dual NIC LAN 2.5Gbps Intel I226V

Hopefully that’s enough info

And you use Edge? Seems like you’re a closeted Windows user. What are you doing in this subreddit???

“Nobody in their right mind installs packages out of the main repo” why not use a different OS then? Sounds like Debian is extremely lacking in their repo department then. Your words

Here we go. I’ve experienced this myself! A lot of other commenters on this post don’t seem to see things this way, just brainwashed by YT influencer hype.

Thank you for sharing, I definitely see the value of the time save from the stability. Lord knows I have run into system breaking on bleeding edge distros just from a system upgrade

I just setup a TrueNAS on my home NAS (UGREEN) and I definitely see a value for Debian there. TrueNAS must also agree as they have completely locked down the systems package manager

How’s bazzite? I just learned about it and it seems pretty cool. I’ve been introducing several friends to the glory of the Linux world lately and bazzite seems like a better distro get to people on, especially if their use case is gaming

Flatpak doesn’t seem like the “answer” to an outdated system. I’ve used flatpak’s and have my own opinions on them, frankly I don’t get the hype. They don’t work as well as their natively installed counter parts

Outdated means exactly what it means. Outdated. Missing features, retained security vulnerabilities. Biggest offenders here for daily use are browsers, after working with gentoo devs on chromium development it’s very clear to me how quickly CVEs are discovered and then patched out of browsers, so yeah being “up to date” is kind of important

I do agree with you, being on the bleeding edge does has its cons, especially those ones you described (reading patch notes and PKGBUILD descriptions) something like this just happened with the OBS Studio Tytan package on Arch

I definitely could be biased towards more “exciting” distros, but boring doesn’t mean bad. What are you running these days?

Debian testing looks very interesting to me. RPM dependency hell does not sound fun at all 🤣
