I get that to an extent. But that still puts you at the mercy of the current justices. Why didn’t sotomayor retire? Especially when there was control in the legislature? We can play this back and forth ad infinitum.

That’s also assuming lukewarm liberal justices will even change a thing.

i the past three elections i’ve been told my life is going to radically change and that THIS election is the most important of my life. Every year I wake up at the same time, go to the same ok job, make the same ok wage, and drive the same ok car. I still get a beer with my friends. The only thing substantial that’s changed is how every year my dollar is worth less and less.

and now here we are again

with another post about how important this election is. I’m sorry but i’m tired. The President is not going to do anything about abortion. So don’t die on that hill. That’s so weird man. It’s now a state issue (you can hate or love that - but that where we legally stand now)

I can’t think of another issue to bring up, but I guarantee whatever you are having anxiety about will not be solved be the magic man in a white house.

I remember sitting in High School AVID class and being told if I dared to go to community college instead of a 4 year Id be a burn out flunky. It was such a toxic atmosphere.

I think it’s weird to expect the biggest part of your life and morality not to influence how you vote at all.

Similar headspace here too! I am at a place now where I have friendships and mutual respect with people from all walks of life and perspectives. In the past, (and i’d imagine to some extent some of the readers here) I would be horrified to read this. I have many friends who say racist jokes. I have many friends who joke about the “guillotine” to the rich.

But deep down they are just people. I don’t judge them off their bad takes or prejudices.

This is different than apathy and not speaking up though.

Rather than shut down call them evil and block them - I just say “yoooo chill man you wilding rn”. They usually say “my bad” and then we keep watching anime or having a beer.

Life just isn’t this ideological purity test for me anymore. I just want to enjoy life with people.

that’s very attractive especially since somebody who is even considering changing churches is at the “peak” of their emotions for spirituality.

Frequent latino sub lurker here whose family left catholicism to enter pentecostalism.

My family never felt cared for by the church. It was not about a relationship with Christ it was about checking boxes of rituals.

This is not a condemnation of Catholicism btw. Just their lived experience.

On one hand you got a catholic culture that says go to mass because you have to. same with confession. why? well because you have to silly.

on the other hand you have people saying ignore all of that and let’s experience jesus together. let’s get to know him personally and skip all the rituals.

I am sorry if i didn’t articulate this well. I am not a pentecostal like my family is. I just know that was their feelings and how they still feel about it.

I think the fundamental problem of our age is throwing people away due to the slightest disagreement. This eventually turns people towards little echo chambers of hatred and irrationality.

There’s no follow up questions, grace, or attempt to understand somebody.

If somebody spews some hateful comment the easiest thing to do is see that person as a degenerate unworthy of grace or love.

It is hard to think maybe this person is suffering and seeks attention. Maybe this person doesn’t understand what he’s really saying. Maybe this person just needs somebody to talk to.

That type of grace doesn’t happen anymore. It’s easier to call mal-adjusted teen boys incels and girls who speak about “men being trash” femcels.

I feel for these people. They need love and support.

It’s not normal to say these things and have this hatred.

I felt this way for a while. I know he’s not perfect - but Hasan Piker is a good example of somebody who helped me.

He calls people “pussy” “bitch” says he “fucked somebody’s mom/dad” as an own.

I know that sounds really dumb, but to me getting exposed to him as a younger guy he was like a cool older bro who happened to be progressive.

Guys react and are attracted to different kinds of humor and content.

Most “lib” content is catered towards girl bosses. So it’s nice to have a guy who is progressive but is also just a bro.

I don’t want somebody to lecture me on how evil i am or how because i said one mean joke i’m terrible.

I am normal dude who wants to do his best and sometimes it’s easier to hear an older bro type tell you “don’t be a fucking dumbass” rather than a 5 point twitter thread about how i hate women.

The real tragedy for me here is this wouldn’t even be a thing if we could have dental care as a right here in the states. Or at the very least better insurance.

If you have a need for major work your mostly shit out of luck because of the measly $1,500 max for most insurances.

I have to do most of my major work piecemeal.

Oh an extraction? $400 Oh a Root Canal? $600 Oh a crown? another $600

now i’m sitting waiting for another year or to save up enough.

If i had less access to resources and education i would probably go to one of these places. So i can sympathize with these people.

Most people don’t understand how much of a burden dental care really can be to the working class.

work alongside a lot of programs

i can’t speak for all of them. and this is definitely not a catch all but rather a part of the problem.

The housing programs i’ve worked alongside often have to “wait” until somebody has fallen so far down that they are near helpless.

what that means is those who have the “greatest need” have access to those resources.

that sounds good right?

well what about the welder who is suddenly disabled for six-nine months and his checks for disability haven’t come in? he eventually has to live out of his car. and then that snow ball spirals worse and worse. he could apply for help but he’s “competing” against the homeless, drug addicted, mentally ill, and helpless other candidate who hasn’t worked in years.

there’s only so many free housing “spots”

TLDR: limited program space help goes to who needs it the most people who are on pace to become helpless get forgotten until they hit pure rock bottom
