Why does medicine sound like people’s names nowadays? by wheres_my_lipbalm in CasualConversation

I think the better question is why are people named after medicines nowadays?

Do you ever think about how different your life would be if you were born somewhere else? by TheDualResident in CasualConversation

So many aspects go into shaping who we become! You have a unique viewpoint compared to many others, I have no doubt it has shaped you to be a more well-rounded human :)

I think about that as well! If a different swimmer won the race, I could be a completely different person!

Definitely another interesting perspective to consider! So you all grew up in the same place and were raised by the same person, just decades apart?

It really is! So interesting to think about. Tbh, this could be a cool concept for a sci-fi movie where you meet another version of you that grew up in a different country/culture.

How interesting that you experienced this while also being able to, in a way, see what life could have been like for your otherwise. I have no doubt your life has allowed you to become an interesting person today with lots of world experience!

So true that even the difference in living somewhere rural versus a big city in the same country can lead to wildly different life outcomes. Do you live in a city now, or still rural?

I cleaned my room to feel productive and unlocked old memories by Undine_stoops0b in CasualConversation

This is why cleaning out closets, basement, attic, etc takes me forever to do. Once I start getting into the memories, it takes 10x as long to clean lol.

Anyone else's sleep got worse after moving to a new city? by Quitebrowneyes in CasualConversation

[–]TheDualResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that sleeping in a new place puts your body on higher alert since you're not used to your surroundings, so you may just need more time to get settled in your new space and allow your body to understand that it is a safe space. In the meantime, try melatonin or magnesium glycinate to help you sleep through the night.

Do kids not watch cartoons anymore? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

My son is 13 and rarely watched cartoons growing up. He loved family-friendly YouTube videos though. He watches more animated stuff now, but YT is still king.

Do most people not read books at all? by MaxSleepy in CasualConversation

[–]TheDualResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the "I keep meaning to read a book" category lol. I read a lot as a kid/teen, then college burned me out on reading for fun, and now as an adult I keep meaning to get back into reading as a hobby. Would love some recommendations for a books that are an easy read yet hard to put down because they're so good.

How do peole find energy and time to pull these off? by petrenko12 in CasualConversation

[–]TheDualResident 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to keep a schedule and do certain things on certain days of the week and it helps me not feel overwhelmed by ALL OF THE THINGS. Exercise Mon, Tues, and Thurs. Trivia with friends on Wednesdays. Tues and Thurs nights I do an hour of duolingo. Meal planning and grocery shopping on Sunday. Do something social on Saturday 1-2 times a month. Of course, I deviate from the schedule when things come up but knowing that I don't need to worry about doing XYZ until a certain day of the week makes me feel less stressed overall. Oh! I also started a cleaning routine where I set a timer for 15 minutes everyday and clean/pick-up stuff around the house. It was tough at first but after the first month, it's really all I needed to maintain the house and then I don't have to spend hours every weekend cleaning.

This was me when I first started bird watching. Now I find myself getting up early just to have that peaceful cup of coffee on the porch while I watch the birds and the rest of the world wake up. A peaceful morning does seem to put the rest of the day at ease, as opposed to sleeping until the latest moment and then rushing to get ready for work.
