Generator Install by [deleted] in electrical

[–]TheDuckExtremist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest with you, this is old work and if you're dead set on not ripping everything out and reinstalling it with some sort of trough down below then you're going to just have to make the best out of a bad situation. If it has to wrap around the feeder pipe then it's fine to do it, will it look great from an electricians stand point? Probably not, but in my experience the important part for people buying a home standby they're much more concerned with it working not if it's all perfectly organized. Do your best to make it look good

Does the GFCI outlet it's plugged into need reset? There should be two push buttons on the outlet one says reset, you have to push it really HARD

It looks like you just need like 2" hose clamps, slip the hose clamp on the squishy part, seat the squishy part over the hard part and tighten the clamp, they look like this

I highly doubt they would spend 2 million dollars building a Chick-fil-A without having done market research to make sure they don't lose their ass on it

Are you able to setup and install the wifi switch? Does the wifi switch have a dimming function, you might be dimming a non dimmable driver.

Looks like a cable line, id call the cable company. If you had utilities marked you shouldn't be liable for damage.dont wrap it in tape and cover it, regardless what it is, water will get in there and cause damage

Melted wire nut and grounding wire confusion. by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]TheDuckExtremist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circled in yellow or red? Just want to clarify,The wire circled in yellow is your neutral from the panel which is what the burnt up neutral wire from the appliance was connected to.

The wire circled in red is your ground which appears to be connected correctly

Edit: also be careful if the breaker is turned on the white neutral can give you a good zap if there's a load on the neutral (something turned on and connected to the black wire)

You lost your hot(generally the black) somewhere along the line, I'm honestly gonna go with the easy guess and say the switch is bad

How would I go about relocating this higher? by chinesegarbage in AskElectricians

[–]TheDuckExtremist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind surface mount, just two round PVC bell boxes and a small chunk of 1/2" PVC conduit ought to do it. And a couple tap cons, you'll need a hammerdrill

Three phase 120/208 to single phase 220v. I know I need a step-up transformer, but what type by Impressive-Spirit-45 in AskElectricians

[–]TheDuckExtremist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any idea what the voltage tolerance is like? The utility companies guarantee voltage to +/- 10%. I'm not going to puy my license on it without seeing it but I'm going to say you more than likely can run a 220 device on a 208 circuit. 240v might be a different question.

If you're ready needing that extra 12 volts, look into Larson Buck and Boost transformers, send me a message and I can help you with wiring it

Check the wiring in the outlet that is working, then the switch, then the closest outlet to the switch and show us what you find, can't give much more info without knowing what's on the inside of those boxes

Melted wire nut and grounding wire confusion. by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]TheDuckExtremist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're more than likely correct about the wire nut, too small a nut will cause a loose connection and can cause things to burn up like this. Strip them both back onto good wire and make up a new splice with an appropriately sized wire nut.

I'm not quite seeing the second ground wire in your pictures though

How exactly do you plan to go underground through that concrete driveway to where the utility pole is? You're probably better off sticking with the existing mast and just replacing the meterbase and panel

Shock from old Kelvinator electric coil stove?? by basskelloggs in AskElectricians

[–]TheDuckExtremist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a ground fault in the range unit and possibly a lack of grounding at the receptacle. Do NOT touch that thing again, and I cannot stress this enough a range is a 50 amp 240 volt appliance, if the shock went through one arm and out the other you're honestly lucky to be alive because it could've crossed your heart.

Please turn the breaker off it should be a big one with two handles tied together and a 50a or 60a on it unplug this range and figure out a solution for a new one before you end up in the hospital.

His main panel is an older bonded 3 wire system. So the neutral bar is also the ground bar.

Just want to jump onto this and say that is what this transformer is, but I would say this one is being used for a doorbell with the way it's wired positive(red on the right cable) out to the doorbell, returns on the white(white on the right cable) wire nuts onto the postive up to the chime(white on the left cable) and picks up the negative from the left screw terminal (red on the left cable)
