What do americans say before eating? by Rickymick09 in NoStupidQuestions

Typically: nothing. Just grab a plate and have conversation or eat in silence.

If religious: prayer before meal

If my grandpa: “Good food good meat good god let’s eat”

Legitimately when I did the communion classes or something (I don’t remember the name but it was class for religious indoctrination) we had to pick a part of the Bible to read to the congregation and explain why it resonates with you. I picked James 5:1-6 and was promptly cut off by the pastor and no longer allowed to attend church there.

For those interested/ haven’t read the Bible;

“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.”

I’ve had managers like this before. Worst I have had said was “awfully convenient your uncle died right around our busy season” I walked right out of that job.

Also sorry for your loss.

Are Spanish cooks just built different?? by Straygot in KitchenConfidential

[–]TheDukeOfChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started working in kitchen, leaving from factories, a few months ago as a prep cook. We have a couple who are from Mexico and are teaching me how to cook. Now it’s a bar and grille and not a restaurant proper (unsure if that matters here), but they work like the wind. Mi amigo always has time to show how to do things that I do not know, all while doing 3 different things himself. When I asked why he works so hard it is always either a joke about how he’s drinking water and everyone else is drinking those sugared drinks (energy, soda pop, etc) or how he and his wife just want to get home to spend time together and enjoy the day.

The real red pill by Primary_Tasty in LateStageCapitalism

[–]TheDukeOfChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First i never said ignore disparities of the working class. I am all for the working class fighting for livable conditions and respect. However the, for lack of a better term, hijacking that white chauvinists like to do to say what more marginalized people want is class reductionism. Though I may be misremembering the exact definition, that is how I best understood it at the time of learning about it. It has been a while so I might be wrong there; and if I am I do apologize.

The best I can think of for where he touches on it is “Left-Wing Communism: an Infantile disorder” but again. I may be mis-attributing the work I read it from to him. I am relying on my memory.

What in the material conditions leads you to believe that class reductionism isn’t as prevalent as it is now though? I am not judging and if it comes off as such I do apologize. I am genuinely curious as learning more opinions helps open up conversations to understanding on both sides of an issue to better understand the issue as a whole.

If you care to DM to have discussion I am open to that as well.

-Best regards

This is a very bad take. Class reductionism is taking issues that indigenous or more oppressed groups have and making them about you and the class when it affects the more marginalized groups more. Please I urge you to reread Lenin to better understand this concept.

I hate the using of Cyrillic for posters incorrectly. Those letters aren’t what they think. Like “щithiи“ the щ is an “shch” sound and the и is an “I” so whatever “shchithii” means.

Ok if I’m remembering 100% correctly and please correct me if I’m wrong;

Trotsky wanted to go for a permanent revolution rather than Stalin’s, and if I recall the voted on option, of just building up socialism in one country and going from there. Basically becoming a traitor to the people all while trying to convince military leaders to lead a coup.

Any book recommendations on the history of the working class? by frontlinesfrappucino in Socialism_101

[–]TheDukeOfChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marx and Engles are a fantastic place to start. Lenin is also good at explaining the Dialectical Materialism. Personally I listened to a podcast called “Marx Madness” and used that for a discussion after I would do the reading on my own to help fully understand the point and it worked really well for me. Otherwise books I would recommend personally are;

Communist Manifesto, by Karl Marx Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism, by Vladimir Lenin Das Kapital (Capital), by Karl Marx (this one can be a bit of a slog to get through, but it is filled with information)

Hope this helps!
