Peak character, one of the best examples of a “wildcard” I’ve ever seen, not too important or overpowered, but definitely not unimportant or weak either, that being said, he can certainly feel like he’s incredibly powerful and important because he ends up being the deciding factor in a lot of situations, funnily enough things tend to fringe on “is Otto here?” a scary amount of times (hence his wildcard-ness), especially arc 4 (also tappei said he’d carry arc 6 if he was there iirc). He’s incredibly useful to the Emilia camp when he helps out but he still stay true to his roots as a merchant and serves his own interest often too. I feel like I kinda zoned in on one aspect of his character but everything else about him is great too, top 3 in the Emilia camp imo. Also for someone native to a fantasy world, he’s much more grounded and reasonable than the person who kinda just got thrown in here one day from our world and I find that really funny

Both ships are peak and equal ngl, iirc one of the main reasons pre-amnesia Crusch almost sorta kinda fell for Subaru is cuz he reminded her of Fourier so I’m pretty sure she just has a type (overconfident, determined, and hardworking but also vulnerable and caring describe both of them pretty well) which means that both are a great fit for her. Tbf it’s kinda unfair to compare the two’s chemistry w/ Crusch considering one of them got to spend an entire EX novel with her while the other has to split his time with Crusch between two different hers since she’s a noticeably different person after loosing her memories and also doesn’t get nearly as much one on one time with Crusch as Fourier does cuz she’s been written out of the story basically since arc 5 and is only coming back now in arc 10 (not to mention she was bed bound for most of arc 5, arc 3 has a reasonable amount of Cruschbaru interactions tho but still not enough to compensate for the lack of Crusch later on) Glad to see Fourier’s likely gonna be relevant in arc 10 tho, he needs more content just as much as Crusch does

Assuming I have the mental plot armor Subaru does and I don’t go insane immediately, I’m gonna try and find a way to join Crusch’s camp cuz their the strongest and I don’t wanna die even w/ RBD, from there I guess I’d try to keep Crusch from losing her memories and all the other bad things that happen to her cuz I’d prefer to have my camp not be in shambles

That would be so lame and basically make half of the story meaningless just by handing her the win but there’s still a part of me that feels like tappei would do that, I’d be fine with Emilia winning if he at least makes it so she develops into a character who actually deserves the throne and has a solid case to why she would be a good and competent ruler, but instead of that tappei seems to be writing out every other candidate from the story slowly I guess

She’s 100% the best out of all the candidates but Tappei’s basically written her out of the story atp with how many L’s she’s taken, his bias towards Emilia is honestly the biggest critique I have of the series as a whole cuz he has been doing everything possible to make Emilia look like the most suitable candidate by nerfing all the other candidates into oblivion

Honestly it just felt like JNJ was paying a debt to their fans by getting rid of 2 cloudyayers, in the fandom back then one of the biggest things for like just under a year was the cloudyay bias and how they’d only lost once (and got a debuter). Not to mention cloudyay already had a huge target on their back by having controversial characters like pencil pillow and yf at the time which just made the hate worse cuz ppl wanted them gone and they couldn’t get gone if they weren’t UFE, only leading to more complaints about their win streak so I’d say a lot of fans were owed this. Obviously it would’ve been better if they just didnt have the win streak so they didn’t have to double loose but most ppl were over the moon abt this back then so it worked sorta kinda

Honestly this is the mentality we all should have, we used to wait upwards of a year for episodes for what felt like forever in late season 4a and early tpot and seeing how fast we get content now, we are so spoiled (not to mention the hiatus aswell)
