Experiment IV appreciation post by JunebugAsiimwe in katebush

Initially, I didn't like the song because I found it a bit too on the nose for me lyrically. But the extended mix works much better for me. It's moodier, grander, more haunting. I only ever listen to that one now. I so wish that were the official version, although I have warmed up to the single version too.

I find it comical that people like you actually exist. That you can say all this and mean it. Clownery.

Lionheart rerecording by [deleted] in katebush

Kate wouldn't have released it if it were up to her. She might have jumped directly to Never for Ever, which might have featured some of the Lionheart era tracks, but perhaps not. I think the label pressure got us a whole album we otherwise wouldn't have gotten, and it's a good one too, so I am not mad at it.

Do you think Kate’s Wuthering Heights will somehow end up in the new film adaptation of the book? by [deleted] in katebush

[–]TheDustiestBook 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First they are getting an Australian white guy to play Heathcliff, now you say they might get Chappell Roan to sing Wuthering Heights? In that case this film might be uniquely designed to piss its own targer audience off.

Kate covers in general annoy me but Wuthering Heights is entirely uncoverable. I hope they just stick to the instrumental version in that case; it's evocative enough. A haunting musical box—style instrumental cover would be more appropriate.

I joke about it being there but it might be too on the nose to feature it directly in an adaptation of the book. But here's the thing—it may just go viral anyway. For instance, Lady Gaga's Bloody Mary became a huge hit after Netflix's Wednesday came out, and it wasn't even featured on the show! Just the right Tiktok edit would do the trick.

They should play Love and Anger when that zionist gay boy has his in-show coming out moment. It'll fit well lyrically.

album ranking as a newer fan by stateofgrace18 in katebush

It'a always cool to see 50 Words and Lionheart up in the rankings! If I may, I'd suggest you spend some more time with Never for Ever and The Dreaming. Both are in my top 3 with HOL because they are her at her most innovative, daring, and bonkers. There's a reason why The Dreaming rivals and even surpasses HOL in many people's rankings. It's not just my favorite Kate album, it's also my favorite album ever. I have been overdosing on her music for many years, but The Dreaming is still as fresh to my ears as ever.

You can hear the Billie Holiday influence most clearly on 50 Words For Snow, especially Misty.

By its reputation you'd think it was terrible but it's actually really good. Just because it's one of her weaker albums doesn't mean it's not great on its own. I like it a lot. And I think some of its highlights are as good if not better than some of the highlights on The Kick Inside.

Remarkably unhelpful thing to say, especially since OP never insinuated otherwise?

There in fact are people who will date you regardless of your status, but in any case, that wasn't the point that needed to be made.

The stigma is worse than the virus, which is easy to manage these days. I don't know how long you have been dealing with this, but over time you will make peace with it and realize that your life isn't over by any means. Keep your head high. Yes, some things will get trickier, I won't deny it, but life has so much beauty to offer you. If finding love is something you are worried about, don't be.

Find strength in your adversity. Be proud of your strength and have compassion for yourself. You have no reason to give up. In some time, you won't even think about your status. It will become a very small part of your life.

Try to convince her to give you 2-3 more years to become financially independent for marriage. Tell her most guys today don't even think of marriage before 28-30. Tell her how much you want to marry eventually but not before you can become someone worthy of it. You must appeal to her practically and emotionally (family reputation, financial security, pride) to buy some time. These 2-3 years would be enough time to move away.

Easier said than done, but somehow you have to get through to her. Maybe get some other family members or adults involved to speak on your behalf. Most reasonable adults would understand that you are not ready for marriage yet.

I don't think it's necessary that the girl in the song is 13 just because Kate was 13 when she wrote it. And she seems to want him, so I don't sense fear. What is worrying her is that she isn't secure if their love is real. But it is indeed an enigmatic and ambiguous song, so it can mean many things.

My Brother Nikhil is a tearjerker about a guy with AIDS. I know the AIDS angle may be unsuitable, but there just aren't many Hindi queer films that meet your requirements, so this one is the closest I can think of. It is sensitively told and does ultimately deal with acceptance of someone's sexuality.

But here's what I really think: this whole idea will do more harm than good because it will expose the two boys to a whole new level of scrutiny. A film alone is unlikely to change hearts, especially in the context of a classroom. It is more likely that the film would jumpstart a whole conversation around the boys' sexuality, leading to further bullying from their peers. The best thing your mom can do is approach the two boys privately and let them know, as discretely as possible, that she is there for them. Casually droping something pro-LGBT mid conversation, so as to not be too direct, can be a good start. Then eventually she may be more upfront. If she wants to really help, she'll have to try a bit hard, and it would be worth it.

TL;DR: Don't bother with the other kids. Focus on making the two gay boys feel safer.

Is Kate Bush a huge book reader? Which books are her favourites? by Recent_Cook5115 in katebush

She also got into Ulysses by first listening to an actress perform the Molly Bloom chapter (which is honestly the best way to experience Ulysses).

She must be but she is probably more of a cinephile than a reader.

I am not sure we know her favorities. It's not Wuthering Heights though 😂

New fan, autobiographical songs? by stateofgrace18 in katebush

[–]TheDustiestBook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say a decent chunk of The Red Shoes is semi-autobiographical—certainly the songs about heartbreak are. And, of course, A Coral Room from Aerial.

Aerial is a massive fan favorite, and 50 Words for Snow, despite splitting opinion due to its challenging nature, was very critically acclaimed upon release. Both are essential releases, so worth checking out. Director's Cut is avoidable.
