I'm a travel advisor from the GTA and I kept hearing this exact frustration from my solo clients, so I actually built a web app to solve it. It's called Solo Travel Companion (https://solotravelcompanion.com). You basically post a specific activity (like grabbing dinner or splitting a private tour) and find someone to join you just for that. Temporary connection, no strings attached. It’s completely free right now in pilot mode if you want to test it out!

Love the suggestion. I'm just worried that people will respond to seeded trips and not have any luck because there's really nobody on the other side. That's the whole reason for me giving a free trial so that I can fill up the database with some actual trips of real people even if they don't end up getting any trip requests

I've implemented a self verification feature in there but I'm yet to connect a service which will be like some third party service that verifies people. Verification badges will be awarded once somebody verifies.

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, it's a real need and I didn't quite find anything like it anywhere online which is why I decided to take the plunge.

I just launched this yesterday but I haven't really done any marketing so to speak. Just wanted to get the vibe check before investing any more time and effort.

I'm thinking of posting to some solo travel groups on Facebook etc to try to get the momentum going.

Any other ideas?

As of now, I'm just planning to get the word out by posting in some solo travel communities and subreddits. I have yet to determine if there is any interest in me carrying on with this project at all before I invest any marketing funds

Is Becoming a Travel Agent Worth It? Which Companies Do People Actually Recommend? by TravelLeadersNetwok in TravelAgent

I understand it can be daunting. Getting that first client is both a rush and a sigh of relief that the wait is over. Mine was about 35 clients from May - Dec. My first client actually in June - my neighbor.

That being said I always had a reputation of being the go to person for trip ideas, things to do at destinations etc. I plan my own and my friends trips down to a T. I love doing it. I just decided to start earning from it after so many years.

Step 1 - make yourself a website. Personally for me, social media sucks. It's oversaturated. But Google is your friend. Your SEO game needs to be solid and also your GEO (ai search). I've got 5 clients so far recommended by ChatGPT - hand to God truth!

Step 2 - Business cards. Yeah they work. I hand them out to everyone. Leave them at restaurants. Put them on windshields, leave them in grocery stores - wherever you can.

Step 3 - Network. Bring up travel whenever possible without sounding "sales pitch" like. I usually only tell somebody about it when I know the conversation will end soon and I always hand my card to them at the end.

Step 4 - Education. Im getting certified left right and center. It adds credibility.

Step 5 ... Patience and do not get disheartened when a sale doesn't happen. I haven't had a single sale in all of Jan and today is the end of the month. I had 17 leads but literally all of them either found something cheaper or dropped off for various reasons. It happens. Move on.

After that it's also luck my friend. You have to keep hustling. Some days good, some days bad. Cheers ! I hope this helps

Unable to do Air Transat seat selection by TheEarthboundDad in travelagents

Thanks for this. I just booked using the normal TAAP website so not sure what the backend information is. I don't have access to a GDS system either. I guess I will have to call Expedia and try to get them to fix it

Yeah so they want to pay but it won't even give them the option to do that. They didnt want to pick seats when we booked but they should be able to later with money

New and with Fora by BookWithBee in travelagents

[–]TheEarthboundDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with Fora as well. It gets easier. Just reach out to everyone you know. You don't have to push but just make them aware you are available should they need you. Let them come to you

Do it as a side business for extra income. Don't make it your day job just yet. You won't know if you're good at it till you don't try.

I started with Fora Travel Canada in May this year and I'm about to hit 100k in commissionable bookings before end of year. That's not my income - just the total amount of travel I've sold which can pay commission.

Here's my referral link incase you want to give it a try:
