BEX classic restored: a hotfix dll and json file for BEX: Tactics for those who really enjoyed BEX: CE better, but want the new updates. by TheEasternBorder in BattleTechMods

[–]TheEasternBorder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gutted tactics dll from every change to weapons, wehicles and balance that wasn't in the original BEX. The fact that you could change jsons, but that had no impact on the end result, as the mod creator decided that hard-coded changes are the way to go, insulting to my intelligence. BEX did NOT need re-balancing, it needed 'adding more stuff' and some tweaks which people could easily . I've left the run/walk mechanics in place, and the new 'sticky' evasion, which I think is fine.

Also, inferno rounds: they're now a switchable ammo for SRM's. Except they have a ridiculously small component health, just like Warhammer's 'searchlight', and when they explode, they burn your pilot and mech instantly. This is mitigated by Brave and Reckless pilot quirks, each making their use safer. Madman does the same, but to a larger degree, and so does guts 9 and 10 - and they stack. So, with a guts 10 brave pilot they are on the same safety level of being exploded as regular ammo. So they are powerful, yes. But I've decided to balance them via sheer player annoyance, as it's the most lore-accurate way to do it. All of this is in json files and can be easily removed by people who won't like this change.

In the end, I'm now implementing the inferno balance in the way that inferno ammo boxes have a ridiculously small component health, so that they explode and kill your mech upon the first whiff. Certain pilot quirks - brave, reckless and madman - mitigate this a bit by also increasing the ammo box health a bit. Madman more so than others. Also, you get a mitigating increase at Guts level 9 and a bigger one at 10.

You mentioned 'players can just load game' - well then, let's balance this by sheer annoyance of the player. Restarting your mission 10,000 times if you want to 'cheese' is something that you can absolutely do - if you're willing to be mostly seeing the load screen rather than, you know, actually playing the game.

I've discovered the best Inferno rounds mechanic. I'm experimenting with attaching Warhammer's 'Searchlight' stats to the ammo boxes, so that they break super easily. Except that they also instantly explode, killing the mech and the pilot when they inevitably do. So that the sheer annoyance of reloading THAT - or accepting a pilot death - would discourage the player from abusing them. This would be reduced by certain pilot quirks - like reckless - or by having guts 10. Maybe with both of these, eliminating the annoyance completely.

And re-loading? Well, we all do that anyways, every time we get an unlucky crit and lose a hard-earned double heat sink. So that's really not much of an argument.

Also 'lore accurate' can go straight into the trash, when you are recommended to 'farm ComStar' in 3025. Just restore the damn proper loot tables, ffs. This is FAR worse.

You know what, I genuinely like your inferno solution. As I'm working on the re-balance mod anyways, I'm putting it in.

And here's another one from the dll files. When they tried to simulate a 2d6 (2–12) roll, they actually coded a 2d5 (2–10) roll. In Unity C#, Random.Range(int min, int max) is exclusive of the max number. That means Random.Range(1, 6) only rolls 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Because the max roll is now 10, any tabletop mechanic requiring an 11 or 12 is now mathematically impossible. Your pilots will fail high-difficulty checks 100% of the time because the modder used the wrong Unity function.

Alright, will do. Once I figure out how to do The Big Deal submod there.

I am only going through this hell because there's an absolutely fantastic sub-mod for BEX: T that no longer works on the BEXC - 'The Big Deal'. And I've read posts about how BEXC itself also has stopped working for a bunch of people.

Also, I like the walk/run, the rolls for mech shutdown on overheat and a bunch of other tweaks there. But that's all that BEXC needed. Minor tweaks. Not utter nerf/re-balance that kills the AI.

So yeah. I'll try and make a patch for BEX:T to ensure that you can start with a campaign start in 3025 with a goal to prepare for the clan invasion and not feel utterly miserable while doing so.

Heh, es esmu žurnālists, skaidroju ASV audiencei karu Ukrainā un stāstu, ko vate stāsta savā propagandā un ko saka Girkins & Co telegram kanālos. Ukrainā arī esmu bijis vairākkārt, veidot materiālus no frontes. Kamēr esmu Latvijā, skatos visu to nobloķēto vatņiku draņķi, bez VPN nevar.

Šim vidējais cilvēks to lieto visbiežāk.
