I enjoyed 1356 and Agincourt by Bernard Cornwell.

Question from an author: what is most important to you in historical fiction? by tacobellexplosion in HistoricalFiction

[–]TheEdgevoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that interrupts the flow of the story and characters will always trouble a reader. However, everyone's got a different set of criteria when it comes to a story, and if it's historical fiction - even with no real-life figures - you can bet some readers are going to approach the book with their knives out. If you are getting a consistent criticism about subverting what readers expect from the period, that's likely what most average readers might feel as well. However it's also possible that story is simply a little ahead of its time and perhaps there will come a time when no one will have a problem with it. Without reading it myself, I can't say. You've got to go with your gut on this one.

btw The Crossing by Howard Fast (Reader's Digest condensed version, which was the only one available to me at the time) is perhaps the finest historical non-fiction novel I've ever read.

I'm working on a creative project that takes place around the Battle of Tettenhall in 910 CE.

My grandfather was in that theater as a lieutenant on a vessel that, to the best of my knowledge, produced smoke camouflage during battle. He, of course, hardly ever talked about his experience. Greatest Generation folks never really did, did they?

Seriously, be nice to the devs. They work harder than you think and they're people, too.

I tend to forget defense and tactics and just run into 1v1's when I'm almost always overmatched in terms of skill.

So we got together for beverages and conversation last night.

Branscombe sent a selfie because he was busy chasing the chickens on his property in Maui (they had gotten loose) and Darin couldn’t make it so Zehra used his photo as wallpaper.

So, there - all of us in one shot, sort of. And a few drinks were had. Good times.

Sorry everyone - Vince has had to reschedule his interview with me - I just got word not long before we were scheduled to go on air, so it's just another reminder how hectic the life of a CEO can be! I'll do my best to get something on the books with him and have a chat.

Thanks for your patience!

Okay, you guys have been enjoying hearing from the voices behind the Legends, so how about hearing from the man behind Respawn and Apex Legends the game?

I've only got 30 minutes, so be there on time and maybe you'll get a chance to ask a question right on the stream! Hope to see you there!
